He smiled to himself as thoughts of Winchester filled his mind and of the sport he had had at Cock's tavern the night before coming to Fort Edwards. The last thing he heard was what he thought was an owl . . .

This one is great too.
Kind of feel sorry for that guy. Hope it was an instant death. Guess the sport at the tavern and sentry duty don't go along.
 
Nice post and story Mike. I see that you are enjoying playing with your new acquistions and all of us FIW fans look forward to more stories and pictures from you. There was a book about a dying Canadian priest a number of years ago called "I Heard the Owl Call My Name". A very appropriate title for you work here. The priest had been influenced by the Indians he knew and hence the tilte related to their stories and beliefs.
