Shaka Zulu DVD (1 Viewer)

Just got hold of this 4DVD set and starting to watch it. Great viewing so far.
However, the picture quality is reminiscent of VHS technology.

Spot on about the picture quality. I remember watching it as a miniseries on free-to-air television in the seventies.. that said, it is a great epic; wonderfully developed story line and no-one in the country town at which I was stationed dared miss an episode.

Reading this post made me remember that I bought this set at least a year ago and never watched it. It was still in the sealed package so I am now watching it and am on the 5th volume. I forgot how great the costumes and scenery were in this movie. Also the acting is great. They could not make a series this comprehensive for todays TV market because of cost. I have a HD LED TV and the picture is respectable, it would be nice if it was remastered to HD. I recommend any ZULU buff like I am to rewatch this series.

1986, as a matter of fact, when home video consumption was in full swing. I think I saw it on A&E back then, when they carried a lot of British content (such as "Sherlock Holmes" with Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke, or "Lovejoy"). I agree, it's an entertaining series. I knew virtually nothing about the rise of the Zulus, and years later, it was memories of this miniseries that influenced my purchase of a copy of "The Washing of the Spears".

Whether you're a fan of Zulu history, or just a fan of mini-series, this one deserves a place in your library.

Prost!

The problem with this and a lot of other great Blu-Rays on the market is that they are Region 2 PAL for Europe only. I do not understand why they do not make them NTSC region 1 for US market. I am patiently waiting for EL CID Blu-Ray for region 1. It has been out in Eurpoe for years now.

It hasn't been a problem for about ten years for me. Works seamlessly. Make sure you get one that has the PAL to NTSC converter
built in. The reason not every thing is not released in the US is licensing. The same movie in Europe may be owned by SONY,
in the US by Universal, and Asia by Warner

Even Amazon US

Then get a UHD/4K Television. The built in UHD/4K upscaling works fairly well to some degree. An improvement anyway. Not a lot of 4K content right now.

If you have a fast Internet connection NetFlix has a few. There are other streaming providers.
