So I started taking pictures of a new dio I was constructing on the shelf. Took all the pictures from start to finish. In the process I erased all the pictures. Any way this is the new one with a new backdrop. Bought some vinyl grass mat from Woodland Scenics.

Great idea and nicely carried out. All my dios have to be temps since I have my collection in a glass case with glass shelves and ground cover blocks the light.

I had this whole thing planned out. Showing the shelves and then the stages of the temporary dios. Ground cover, then background. Landscape items then figures.

Kind of Joe. I was going to show how ones like mine could be done easily and quickly. Now I have to do it all over again.:rolleyes:;)

Now I know what you've planned which is creating a dio to fit the exact size of a shelf. I saw nothing wrong with the one you've just done......Joe

I put in this Ikea system during the holidays - lots of space now.:D

Nice looking units.

Thanks.
It does look empty. My AK EA MK BBG stuff is on the other side of the room. JJ and EoI is still boxed.
If my math is correct it should hold somewhere around 60,000$ worth or 40 pounds per shelf which ever comes first.

Whats planned ---

The Battle on Snowshoes
Siege of Quebec
1812
Alamo
Britains Matte Zulu
Boxer Rebellion
Boer Wars
AWI
Ancient Persia & their allies
Expand WW1
Expand Napoleonic
Expand FOB
Expand Crimean Campaign

Yes, backdrops.
I use to have some software that allowed you to enlarge a jpg to any size you wanted without loosing any resolution. You could then take it to most any camera shop and have it printed to a custom size for a few dollars.

I'm sure there is shareware out there now that will allow you to do this. I'll have to look around to see what I can find.

If you find it please post here. How do you like your Ikea cabinets?

I will.

Ikea opened a Orlando store in December - 8 footballs fields big - So we went out to take a look. This is the Billy system which has many different heights and widths. This is 3 cabinets with doors + the extension pieces on top that brings it inches from the ceiling. The lighting on top is also Ikea. The 3 cabinets make it 94 inches wide.

Not solid wood but wood chips and very heavy. In fact it feels like solid wood and unless you knew you could not tell the difference. The finish is very nice and well made. The shelves are only 10 inches deep inside so that is a minus but I can work around that.

A nice feature is that the cabinets are cut out at the baseboard and so fit over your baseboard - flush to the wall. There is also a small void behind them so a wall outlet on the wall is covered without obstructing the back.

Everything is the photo was just under 600$ so the price is good.

The way I do it is using big pics as a start to avoid pixelation. The most economical background I created was for a zulu diorama a while back. I googled for suitable background images, selecting the 'large sizes' option.
The best option is to photograph something yourself (with a good camera) if you encounter suitable terrain.

Using the original size as reference, I 'cut' the image up in A4 sized pieces so they could be printed and pasted together. The image was a 70 x 29 cm wide landscape in a very good quality.
As you said, the complete file could have been brought to a camerashop to have it printed in one piece.

Thanks.
I'm interested in photos from the actual site. Like this one --

If you poke around on my WEB site you'll see I have no shortage of cameras and am interested in landscape photography.

It seems you're perfectly able to provide your own backgrounds. Some very nice photography on your site as well as some nice exotic cameras.

Thanks guys.

I use to go out shooting quite a bit. I live across the street from the largest alligator population in FL – The State says around 22,000 in the lake. I''m a rare native of FL so I like to get out in the swamps. My mother was Creek and father Cuban.
