sherman tank On Long Island

This Sherman was used by the Polish Army and was recently rescued from Europe by a millionaire Long Islander, who brought this to NY to honor the WW-2 tankers.

Interesting vehicle. The hull is an M4A3, the suspension is the late HVSS, ther turret is an early "low bustle" type that appears to be missing a commanders hatch or cupola. Maybe a "parts" machine? The Polish forces that operated with the British (Polish 1st Armoured Division) operated Sherman Vs (M4A4s) and later some Sherman IIA (M4A1s with 76mm guns). Neither the Poles nor the British used the M4A3 in combat (they were held back for the US Army and Marines). Still, it's nice to see another Sherman type saved from extinction! Thanks very much for sharing the photos.
