Brand new Africa Corp set being broken up by a dealer on e-bay already. Is the mfg. to dealer system starting to break down? Michael :(

money money money!

Its surprising that it has taken some of these dealers this long to do this.

What's surprising is why you're surprised. This has been going on for a long time.

I am reletively new to the forum, so that matters that seem trivial to most, are still a big deal to me. I ,in my childlike innocence, still believe in honor, fair business practices, set integrity, common decency to my fellow man, etc.etc. I guess ebay has changed all that and my soldier collecting has and will continue to lose its charm, because of it...Michael

Hi Brad,

I suspose it has since a lot of King and Country sets probably go faster if they are broken up. I dont see this as often with the Britains sets I collect so I guess not being in the know on the practices of King and Country dealers is my bad.

Dave,

I don't think it's a widespread practice but I've observed that for certain dealers the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

I like it. It appears from time to time, I'm a little careless with my figures. I don't try to be but sometimes I am.

It's great to be able to most times replace damaged figures with a solo figure without having to buy and then break a part a set.

I have to agree with Carlos on this point. The people who do it serve a valuable function. I've destroyed two soldiers and buying the whole set again wouldn't have made much sense.

Yes, I agree with you guys. There should be more dealers that do this imo. You may pay a bit more than 1/4 of the price to get just one figure but it's less expensive than buying a complete replacement set.

Btw I recently spent some time repairing a hand made, hand painted pewter 'ANZAC on Camel' that recently hit the tiles from a great height and fell to bits. He was on the top of one of my cabinets and was caught in a domino effect by a falling 'Predator' figure (stupid mixed dispalys). He was a 'one off', so replacement was not an option sadly, they just never look the same after repairs do they.

What is so wrong with breaking up a set??? I really don't understand the problem with it.

I do it from time to time. I usually get a kid who really wants these figures but all he's got is 25. to spend. So, I break up a set and make the additional figures available to other people too. What is so wrong with it?

Can any of you actually tell me that you wouldn't mind having a few more of this pose or more of that pose?

We've had this discussion on previous threads and it is not a new subject. My thoughts remain the same. It’s a sellers and a buyers market. If there are willing sellers with a product and willing buyers of that product and each agrees to a price, what is the harm? If I were using this hobby as my retirement account, I would encourage breaking up sets. This would result in fewer complete sets being available and their value would theoretically increase. Thereby making my investment greater.

But I would agree with the previous posts concerning replacements and affordability. Some collectors just starting out, especially those not earning as much as some others, perhaps cannot afford an entire set and can instead purchase it one piece at a time. What is the harm? Michael
