The Colour Guard (King's and Regimental colours) of the Battalion Company of the 1st Foot Guards are inspected by a mounted officer on the grounds of a 14th Century German castle. During the Seven Years War (1756-1763) against the French, the 1st Foot Guards spent most of their time in Germany.

Figures from W. Britain Redcoat Series:
WB #s: 47006, 47004, 43009, 43013C

These are great figures and a great photo Randy once again. I look forward to seeing what WB brings out next year (and of course seeing your photos of the new releases) :D

I hope you are archiving all these wonderful photos.

What about making them available on the WBritains site?

Or combining with that guy that does the calendars, book marks and making display cards of each for WBritains to sell?

I also hope Randy is saving all of these wonderful images. I can just imagine a book in his future weaving the imagery of the miniatures with his great story lines.

Hi Polar Bear, In your photo 'showing the colours' we see the mounted officer, the ensigns and the foot soldiers, and all are the 1st foot guards. Would the ensigns with the three-corner hats also be the ensigns of the grenadier 1st foot guards as I have them in the photo below? Or am I making a faux-pas?

Second question: The foot soldiers in your photo are which set number? Also, I don't see them at the Treefrog Store. Are they retired or the latest thing?
Cheers.

Hi Russell

British regiments of the 18th C were usually composed of 3 companies: Battalion Companies, a Grenadier Co. and a Light Infantry Co. the 1st Foot Guards were an exception they did not have a Light Company.

Here is how a regiment was setup:

Regiment

Consists of 10 Companies:

10 Companies are composed of:

8 Battalion* Companies

2 Flank** Companies

*Battalion Companies are placed at the center of a line
** Flank Companies are at the left and right wings or “flanks” of the Battalion Companies

Two Types of Flank Companies:

Grenadiers –on right flank: a position of honor

Light Infantry—on left flank (used as skirmishers)

The Battalion co, wore the tricorne hats. The Grenadiers wore the "bishop's mitre" style hat to allow room for them to throw a grenade without knocking off their hats. I believe it was usual for the ensigns to be from the Center or Battalion Co, and that is why they are wearing the tricornes.

The Battalion Co, figures standing at attention were only issued to W. Britain Club Members. I believe they still have some in stock and if you join the club you should be able to get them. The first one is free but after that they are $25 each. You cannot get these in a store or from a dealer. Ken tells me that similar tricorne infantry will likely be among future Redcoat-Bluecoat releases so you could pick some up that way,

Here is Ken's diorama that Ericka Osen posted on the forum previously:
