I developed the idea to create a little diorama showing the top of a bastion and its defenders during the siege of Vienna by the Ottomans 1683. The finished dio should then work also fine for showcasing 30-years-war figures, architecture is pretty much the same. I started with some research of drawings from that time and present-day remains of bastions in Vienna.

Followed by cutting and shaping the parapet and the canon embrasures. I decided to build a top corner of a bastion. Also the stone floor was carved into the XPS and the brick wall.IMG_4483.jpeg

You're showing a lot of dedication in building this, having done similar in past, I can appreciate the time spent to achieve such detail👍🏻

I added some modeling clay to the wall and the top to give it a repaired and aged look. Also two sides of the base were covered wird modeling clay to give it a proper look in the end.IMG_4494.jpeg

Finetuning of the bastion continued, I added some jointing sand I had at home (for my outside patio tiles), fixed with a mix of wood glue and water. This should give it a more realistic and weathered look.

Finally I used some more modelling clay to show some vegatation, which grew over time, on top of the parapet and on the canon embrasures.

The crafting of the model is pretty much done, so now I can start the painting. This starts with a black primer of the whole base. I am using acrylic paint for the job. More to follow soon hopefully :)
