Siege of Vienna line (1 Viewer)

I still found some photos I made last year. On the end these photos have nothing to do with First Legion so please forgive me for posting them here.
Polish Winged Hussars charge.

I would love to support this line with cash, but don't think it is in the budget. Would love to see FL do it and see people make dioramas of it.

Maybe in a decade or so. :p

Well, guys, looks as if your lobbying was successful. Not saying it took much effort.

Hi Andreas,

Really great to see this line officially announced and to get a glimpse of the masters as well. Exciting to see this become a reality and looking forward to the pre-order as well as the many possibilities for future figures. Great times ahead for sure, as a collector I couldn't be happier with FL and their creation of so so many wonderful products covering periods I really enjoy. regards Gebhard

Gebs,

Do you know what was the theory behind the wings?

Brad

The use of the Polish-Lithuanian to decorate their armor, their saddle and the trappings of their horse with raptor feathers is linked almost certainly the tradition of shamanism of Eastern Europe. Even before resorting to the wings, the hussars covered with pens their shield.

My understanding is the wings or frames emerged to protect them from the use of the lasso by many of the steppe horse cultures. It made it almost impossible for them to be pulled from their horses. Are you speaking specifically of the feathers, or the frames as well?

It would want to see in the wings a sort of precautions necessary to protect the hussar from the attack of the lasso which used the Tatars or Akinci Ottomans in the fray; However, this theory unlikely since the attack with the lasso aimed at the head / neck of the target and not the torso.

These photo's were originally posted by member and friend Andreas at another location (and quickly lifted by me :wink2:) They show the masters of the upcoming releases of the Polish Winged Hussars as well as some Turkish troops that were brought and displayed by Matt in Chicago. Really looking forward to getting these, hope Andreas isn't made at me for showing his photo's but I thought some of the other members here may also enjoying seeing them.. Regards Gebhard

Maybe, but the wings on the figures pictured would make it very hard to get around the head/neck as well.

Totally agree, these look to be some of their best.

It does seem I'm always saying that, they just keep raising the bar release after release.

Thought I'd bring this thread back to life due to the soon to be released Polish Hussars.

So actually (as Matt says) they are not from Siege of Vienna period (mean second ottoman Siege of Vienna in 1683), they are from earlier period, Thirty Years War and before. Doesn't metter, for me that's even better as most hussars available as kits are from Vienna battle time.
This allows us to close this thread...

Matt states they are from this period:

We have presented them here as they would have appeared from about 1587-1632 under the banners of Sigismund III, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania

Assuming the Ottomans are to be released, the Ottoman Polish War of 1633-1634 is a possibility but, of course, that is a year after Sigismund died. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I have to admit a few years ago when I first saw the images on the box of the Polish Winged Hussars my imagination and hopes got the best of me. Loving Vienna and having just visited the collection at the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum in Wein all I could think about was the Siege of 1683.

I must still admit to being a little disappointed not to see the Standard of the Great Jan Sobieski but It's been a while since Matt mentioned that the figures would not be based on my long hoped for Siege of Vienna line and Andreas's cool photo's of the prototype figures also showed as much. Hey I can still find some wonderful things to do with the Army of Sigismund III as well ;) .

Stunning figures, I really can't wait to recieve them.. :D
