Suddenly find myself very interested in this old series. The whole trade route smacks of mystery and colour. I wonder if Helen could ever be convinced to redo this series in Matte. Checked out on Sagers site what was originally released, there were not many, but they were interesting. I see colourful figures with pack elephants, camels, horses and donkeys with military escort figures and some medieval buildings along the road and perhaps some brigands. The old series of the Silk road are far to rare to attempt to collect now and gloss is not my thing, but if done again after so long a gap and with the better craftsmanship K&C has today, I give every chance the series would do well. Is just me that can see a potential here? Might be beating a lone drum on this one. Cheers, Robin.

Robin,
I agree it was a very colourful series. The Imperial Chinese series is nice but only one uniform option whereas there were different regiments in the old series and could do a great marching scene.

Would be a hard one to assess but odds are would be a below average seller. On the one hand I would love to have such as display in the shop but on the other not many might go for it.

Regards
Brett

Hey there Village Horse. I have had the privilege of seeing a lot of these pieces over the years and you are spot on- they are very very colorful and unique pieces. I think they harken back to a better time of KC myself. The elephants go for a small mint these days. Matte finish??????? Would probably look pretty nice.

Brett, would this be likely to appeal to the China market, I have no idea how much of K&C's product is sold in that country, but if anything like how great it is to have the LH series here in Australia, you would think it would go down a treat. Marco Polo was involved with the Silk road. I just see so much colour in this series, notwithstanding the different uniforms you pointed out and again mystery and intrigue. The original series to what K&C produces these days seems only a token effort. Will have to work on Helen next time I see her, silly me spent all my 4 hours sitting with Andy when I should have moved down 2 seats and sat with Helen. Cheers, Robin

Seeing some pix of this series is what started me collecting figures again. Unfortunately I was too late for the 'Silk road' series but found SOHK instead. I'd definitely be into it.

Robin,
I would think it would appeal to the China/HK/Singapore market particulary if tied into an era/battle like Red Cliffs. Not an easy one to assess and such figures more expensive than most others.
Can see the appeal of a camel caravan type scene perhaps with a military escort for a VIP.

All positive input here. Yes I see a caravan coupled with Royalty also. I am going to Singapore in June and plan to hit the new store there. See if I can plant the seed, worst part I will be 2 years older and 24 monthly dispatches waiting for them to appear. Guess you have to start the journey down this road sometime, perhaps it's already in the pipeline and I have pre emptied by luck, what are the chances. Thanks guys for your comments. Cheers, Robin.

Could this not be rereleased as a subseries in the SoHK range? Just a thought............

Sounds very logical to me Chris. Good approach. Perhaps a faster way of getting some new releases off and running. Might be just the thing to freshen up the already large range in SoHK. Need the collectors for this series to get on board. Cheers, Robin.

I was thinking about all your requests for a Stuka when I first wrote about this Wayne and wondering whether it would be worth while even trying to make this happen. I do not think I could handle the frustration that must go with you and Stuka's for the hundred's of requests that you have made to no avail. I do not handle rejection well, I just give in and go with the flow. Hopefully there are some stronger influential forum members that will fight the battle for the Silk road return. Cheers, Robin.

Elements of a revived Silk Road series will go absolutely with the new Imperial China range. Would love to see a supply caravan and war drums to go with the upcoming outpost fort. {sm4}

I am with you OD, so 2 beating the drum, small start, but big things can grow. Cannot get that Silk elephant out of my head, last heard one going for $950 so my only hope is for Helen to revisit, given up on Andy, more chance with Helen, lets hope he does censor what she gets to see on this forum. The fort is a real problem in knowing how big it should be made, finances may dictate. Thinking of using it with my LOJ Romans also. Cheers, Robin.

A new K&C camel caravan would go with quite a few current K&C ranges ... so too could an elephant ! Perhaps the forthcoming Persians may bring along a couple of war elephants. :)
