Singapore Meet & Greet - Spitfire (1 Viewer)

My recollection -- albeit fuzzy -- was that there was a problem with the weight and wingspan of the wings, which is why no one but Figarti has been able to make one.

I went back and searched the old "memory banks" and I was incorrect so apologies if I left a mistaken and incorrect impression. I do remember the two Stukas in the photo above and I hope that John can get around to issuing them in the future. If the Spitfire is any guide, I'm sure they would be amazing. After all, if he can make a plane like the DH 2, I'm sure that he can make the Stuka.

Yes, Thought the Stukas existed......but did they ever get out onto the market?

I'm afraid they did not. I have no idea why but it seemed "all systems go" with them at the Show. (31st March 2012)

It's perfectly possible the Stukas didn't make it to market because they didn't meet John's exacting criteria. There could have been problems with the materials that were being used at that point, some 5+ years ago, that couldn't be overcome to John's satisfaction. Painted masters don't necessarily mean production goes forward. I have a painted master of a Sopwith Camel that never made it to production because John ultimately wasn't happy with a certain aspect of it. Any number of reasons could have halted the Stuka production. Who knows where all that stands now and whether the Stukas could be revisited at some point. Maybe newer materials will make it possible, maybe not. -- Al

That is entirely possible Al.

As an aside, the problem I have is space. I like both the new Boeing and the Spitfire but I'm not sure if I have the space for both, not to mention we don't know what is coming down the road. I have pestered John for a Buffalo but don't know if that's a real possibility.

There is going to be some serious shelf-rearranging and hunting down the back of the sofa for lost change in the next few months. 😂😂

I'm pretty certain that there is some manner of hard limit on Jenkins' product as far as dimensions are concerned, 18 inches perhaps? The wingspan on a Stuka model in 1/30 would be 18.1 inches. I believe that this is owed to shipping-carton considerations. I have NO idea what the particulars of those might be, other than the limitation that I suggest.

Re the Stuka's, I believe they were not released because of cost, and that Figarti released one at the same time, although I think cost was the main reason at the time.

John has sent me a couple of photos which shows how spectacular this plane looks.

Brad,
Thanks for posting these pics! The more I see it the more I like it! 2 great WWII releases in a row: the Jagdpanther and now this Spitfire. JJD is really making a great debut into my collecting period interest! Coundn't be happier!
