We all buy the figures and vehicles, and we all make the dios but what's the best size for K&C/anyone dios???:D

We've all got our own personal favourites, like I love big dios with loads of scenic pieces!!!!!!:D

But what do you think are the best kind of dios?????
Loads of figures and vehicles, just some figures and some scenic items???

What do you think???:D

I have between 1 to 3 vehicles in my dios. I guess much depends upon personal taste, display space and what you are trying to recreate.

I have seen fantastic dios that are large and grand in scale and then small, simple ones that are really good as well- Kogu's Imperial Chinese under my Qianlong thread comes to mind.

I am working on dios of various sizes. It really boils down to how much room you have- of course, FUBAR pointed made a great point to me sometime back- why do you have to do permanent dios- which is what I am looking to do- ultimately, yeah, I have the space and am not fond of leaving figures in their boxes, but there is no reason you can't change up all the time.

I have noticed a trend towards scenic pieces just getting VERY VERY costly and it has me scaling back some. I have worked up some budgets for some of my dios and the scenic pieces can run 40-50% of the dio cost. I am starting to look into alternatives like, dare I say, do it myself!!

Good to see you back on the Forum

I find it difficult to bring myself to actually buy scenic pieces. I always feel that I would rather spend of the figures and someday get round to making my own scenic pieces

The solution I have come to is this- if it is a unique piece- like a special barn or stand, building, whatever, I will buy it. Until I am ready to cut the wood and start making the dioramas and officially set them up, I will wait to buy or make the trees, shrubs, etc. A great looking scenic piece or two well positioned in a dio can make it really spring to life.

Then life would be simple
Till then choices and compromises are may fate I am afraid.

I find that scenics are as important as the figures and vehicles in bringing a diorama to life, and am willing to spend quite a bit on scenics to make my museum pop. There is something really special about the one of a kind or very limited production dioramas Gordon and Andy design and build. They are works of art.

You have to be carefully with the sizes of the Tanks when you build your dio. For example the King Tiger is very huge and goes almost high as a 2nd floor apartment. I advise you to not put to many tanks together try to mix soldiers and some amoured vehicle.

I made my diorama from scratch; the average builds sizes are 36 cm high.

CHEERS:)

:)Right O' Debrito! Dioramas are an unique art unto them selves. You don't want your dio to over power your figures or vehicles. I've seen people so caught up in the diorama detail that they have totaly ignnored the figures. Like all displays it's a balance of art and presentation.
Kind of like a twenty dollar print in a five hundred dollar frame , so to speak.

I was sceptical about this until I photographed the collection using them - Louis is right - they are really good to the point of works of art - wait for the book! I have posted this before I think, but look at the shack and how realistic it is - for example. The saracen castle and special forces base etc etc are all really good and add superbly to the display.

I agree 100% - You need good materials with your dioramas - but, Remember the Figures and Vehicles are what you are doing it for - so there must be a balance.

One great way to add to your collection is to collect diorama items from King and County - that way you get two bangs for the buck !! You get quality diorama piece that will appreciate with your Figures and the great look for the scene itself !!

Be sure to check out the diorama of the Charge of the Light Brigade I took today at the Southeastern Toy Soldier Show in Columbia, South Carolina. It is in the category of "Shows and Show Reports".

I totally agree. In hindsight I note that I used the term "dio" rather loosly as I was refering to several vehicles on a shelf to which I add a few trees etc to make the display more interesting rather than a stand alone diorama with all the trimmings.

The only true dios I have are those cheap ready made versions by Forces of Valour that I have added a few extra items to and only ONE vehicle.

After trying a few display methods I have found that the true dios take up to much display room and I haven't bothered to get any more. I now prefer quasi dios with one, two or three vehicles on a shelf with several additional figures and accessories.

I think that Dioramas make your collection .
You don't have to use manny marterial to make a great diorama .
A background or a tree is all you need .

richard .
