Can anyone link the SdKfz 247 (6 wheels)with Skorzeny ?
I certainly can't. I looked through all my doc about the BoB( and I have a lot) and found no evidence;
Although it is a nice car to have ,in reality only 10 SdKfz's 247's with a 6 wheel bases [/B]were built BEFORE THE WAR They mainly served in the Polish and Russian campaign.I can hardly believe that by the end of 1944 some of them were still around;
The SdKfz 247/B was a 4 wheel vehicle and also from this type a max 58 were assembled.
They both had a crew of 6, were mainly used for recon and observation and both vehicles had NO RADIO fitted.Some however were retro-fitted with a star shaped radio antenna.
I went through the whole list of vehicles and tanks belonging to the 150th Panzer brigade and could find no SdKfz 247's.
Skorzeny's men used 6 SdKfz/234- 4 SdKfz/250 and 6 SdKfz/251 together with US M3's(6) and Greyhounds(4) 28 jeeps, a lot of US and German motorcycles, light and medium civilian cars, light, medium and heavy German trucks. 5 Panther Tanks and 5 Stug III were operational.
So any help is welcome

Guy...

I have not seen anything to state it was there so, I can only think its just a bit of historical creativity on K&C's behalf. Saying that I am sure as it looks great that it won't be around for long and 500 people will be very happy with it added to their collection

Oh, great, just as I was giving K&C kudos for a great job for the BBG range, there may be a mishap! What is it with this "creative license" crap?? All the German stuff during WWII was cool looking,, there is no need to make changes to it!

daruss...

Nobody is saying that the vehicle did not exist just that its debatable whether it was used by Skorzeny in the bulge. I have read a bit as has Guy and although, nobody can read every book and commentary on a battle, neither have come across this being used in 44.

Thats what I meant about creativity in manufacturers across the board not just K&C
Mitch

It's a very good looking model and as only 10 were built pre-war (and there may have been 20 Ausf. B Versions built during the war as part of the production of 58 when they did the 4 wheel version), no other company is likely to make one. Just because K&C advertised it as Skorzney and Bulge doesn't mean anything to me. It fits very nicely into early war occupation and the first year of Barbarossa.

Applicable to the Bulge or not, I had to have it-it reminded of the WWII plastic soldier set I received as a youngster (Marx?) and this vehicle was in the set (though obviously not as well sculpted/built-lol).
A trip down memory lane ?

When I see "creative" and "artistic license" associated with a KC product I know what that means = a screw up. The script then goes on to "don't buy it if you don't like". Interject a little back and forth on how much KC has contributed to the hobby and we should be thankful to Andy instead of attacking him. And why are some always attacking KC by pointing out these errors (i.e. why do they post here if they don't like it?)? Some will vow to buy because "it looks good". Others (the dreaded "rivet counters") will state a preference to be burned at the stake before even setting eyes on it. By about page 4 there will be a few deletions and then back at it for a while. Gradually it will fizzle out and life will go on.

Guys,
It was never my intention to upset people or to attack K&C. I even wrote in my thread that the SdKfz 247 is a nice piece to have in one's collection. I do not know if it is an error from K &C, I simply asked the question " What is the connection between Skorzeny and the SdKfz 247 ? Can anybody help me ?
When I make a dio I want it to be historically correct .I am not a rivet counter, I make dios for several brands and museums so everything, up to the smallest detail, has to be 100% correct. So again , does the SdKfz 247 belong in the battle fields of the Ardennes region in 1944? I personally don't think so but I still have not received any concrete answer !!

The vehicle DID NOT exist in the BotB, i am an geek on the battle and can assure you it was not there, there are some that argue Skorzeny was not even there.

You could put the vehicle with the BBG Elefant, we are all allowed a bit of artist licence. i put a thread on this and it has dissappeared!!!!

However the new german BotB stuff is good, like them all and will buy all of them.

Hi Guy, I also do not know, but it's really great. I already got it home and it's really beautiful.

I can only imagine the commander yelling..."keep your &@#$* muddy boots off my radio gear"...

I picked this set up at Sierra Toy Solider yesterday. It is phenomenal. It sets up well on its own or in a wider scene. The figures inside really capture that ‘holy crap it is cold’ feel and the weathering on the vehicle is, as usual, exceptional. I am having it shipped to my home in Texas so I will not really be able to decide exactly what I will do with it until next week when I am home. One thing is for sure, I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also strongly suspect that Skorzeny never used this vehicle during the BofB. However its a great looking vehicle/model and I look forward to having one in my collection. King and Country here in the UK had already had all of their allocation spoken for so I took a gamble and have ordered it from Treefrog Treasures in the States. Nice to see the positive feedback.

I too am a great admirer and collector of K & C, however a firm that emphasises its attachment to historical accuracy in its advertising should be prepared to be tasked on those occasions where they get it wrong.

I sincerely hope that this is not the last we have seen of 150th Pz Bde from K& C. Next year how about a Panther disguised as an M10? One of the first of K & C Bulge models I got was one of Skorzeny's jeeps, so some more disguised German commandos would also be welcome.

I fully agree. Glad to know that there are others around that find that historical accuracy is important;
And yes, more of the 150th Pz Bde please
Thanks
Guy

I think most people knew when they saw the pictures from the chicago show that this vehicle as well as the two white washed armored cars were probably not at the bulge. But it is a great looking vehicle and you just never relly know if it rerally wasn't there. I saw it in person and it was nice so add alittle variety to your collection and buy it
