I only saw it once, the original that is, but remember it as being a very successful thriller. Olivier and Caine were marvelous.
 
I also quite liked the original. Haven't seen the remake. Hard to beat Olivier and Caine. -- Al
 
I also seem to recall that it was originally a Broadway play.
 
Caine and Larry made another movie together about a dozen years after this one titled The Jigsaw Man Caine played a cold war double agent named Phil Kimberly (which I believe was a play on the name of the notorious Kim Philby the Russian spy based in MI6). Could have been a much better movie if the film company hadn't run out of money halfway through the script. But they cobbled it together for release and it obviously showed. If you catch it on TV it's worth a look as Olivier rarely put in a poor performance.
