Another great figure love the originality.
I find myself wondering how effective a FG42 would have been as a sniper weapon. They were automatic weapons (may have been selective but not sure) that gave off a tremendous fireball at the muzzle. The recoil was excessive because of the full size rifle ammo, hardly indusive to accuracy after the first shot. At any rate, the afore mentioned fireball would have made moving after shooting imperative. Just something to think about. -- lancer
Thanks for the info, Frank. I did not know for sure about the selective fire. Sounds like the FG42 could have been a viable sniper rifle on semi-auto. Probably was inaccurate on full auto like other rifle size-weight weapons (M-14) that fired those high powered rounds. I believe Robert Bruce did a book on WW2 German MGs that included the FG42 (if memory serves) and this source might answer my accuracy question, but I do not own a copy. -- AlThe FG42 was selective fire. For fully automatic fire it fired from an open bolt (meaning when the trigger was released the bolt stopped in the open position) which is common for MGs. This of course would not be accurate due to the mass of the bolt slamming forward coupled with a long lock time and full automatic fire. For semiautomatic fire it fired from a closed bolt which means the bolt was in the forward locked position when the trigger was pulled. This would be similar to the M14/M1A or AR-10 semiautomatic sniper rifles used today. These modern rifles use the 7.62 x 51 mm cartridge which is simlar in power the 7.92 x 57 mm German cartridge. In practice I have no idea how accurate these actually were.

Hey Guys,
I think Wayne is going for a record here. Once I have posted this that will make 8 of the top threads here all started by Wayne.
He is obviously bored waiting for the pics and news from the West Coaster.
Hi Wayne
