Hi guys I was wondering why K&C put bases on soldiers .I would like them without bases so when you put them on buildings they look better.Even dead soldiers would look better without the bases. This is not a dig at K&C but just a wonder why they do this.I have soldiers mounted on buildings in the prone position with dirt bases. The tank riders don't have bases so why with prone soldiers.Any ideas. Simmo.

I've wondered that too. Only Andy can answer it.

Yep that thought has crossed my mind but hey im no Andy so will leave it at that.

I wonder if its because with some poses they may topple over without a solid base underneath. There are baseless figures in the D Day and Bulge ranges. The guy kneeling next to the Bulge Howitzer without a base also makes a cool Tank rider.

In an older thread I've suggested the use of micro magnets like GMP.
They make plane and car models.
The magnets are used to attach the engine cowlings to the fuselage.

I must admit id prefer the arnhem prone soldiers I have to be without bases.

but I expect without bases they would damage easily.

Not really. There are a number of Britains prone figures without bases and they are just as hardy as those that have them. I suspect it is more of a standardization or artistic preference.

Looking over my K&C figures, there are several (in addition to tank riders) that have no base.

I have a few as well. I would certainly welcome any new figures without bases that might be in the prone position or a position that didn't require a base. I don't mind the bases, but if they aren't necessary to hold the figure up, I would prefer no base on those.

It could be that prone figures have bases so to keep them relative (height wise) to standing figures. Also small items of equipment can be included cast into the base.
