Hi Ken - Playing around a little bit more with some thoughts on the farmstead layout. I came up with this one. The farmhouse would be facing the main road, the main road would run parallel to the stone wall with split rail fencing on the opposite side, and the Springhouse would sit within the livestock pasture. Just some more of my musings on the project. Let me know what you think.

Wanted to mention that this layout would accommodate the wood shed, wash house, privy, and smokehouse on one 22" x 22" section. The farm house, clothesline, well, most of the plank fencing and part of the main road would be on a 22" x 22" section. The springhouse some of the stonewall and some plank fencing would be on the third 22" x 22" section, and the 4th 22" x 22" section would have the rest of the main road, the stone wall corner, and most of the split rail fence on it.

These are just some thoughts - anxious to see what your proposal is.

Ken, here are three more pictures of a variation of basically the same idea.
Mike

Smaller farm yard and livestock pasture. Larger area for farm lane/wagon path/cattle path. Stonewall can still be moved to allow flexibiity.

"Backyard" stone wall. I really like the looks of the stonewall butted up against the smokehouse and the privy against the stone. Notice the large opening in fence for wagon access.

Hi Mike!
Thanks for posting the images.
This is very much like I envisioned the set up when we chatted the other day. Moving the walls and buildings out of square with the edges is not only more interesting, but this will also give you an area to stage troops at the one end of the turnpike fence.
The orientation of the front of the house to the public road also is more typical of the period and should allow the development of a small front yard.
This will be a fun project!
Ken
