Here are a couple recent plastic conversions. The German on the horse is based on the guy in the movie "The Longest Day" who was taking cofee down to the beach defense positions.

The dog is just one of those classics - if I remember right there used to be one in each set of Timmee or such plastic soldiers. I used him because 1) he was what I had available and 2) he was what I could afford. The Timmee dogs look (to me) like a cross between a Collie and a German Shepherd, be he gives the right impression.
