Gentle Friends,

Among other things, I was dusting some of the vintage figures I have displayed in one of my curio cabinets. I have several shelves in that particular cabinet that are strictly devoted to older sets/figures. I like to display them in order to talk with guests about the history of toy soldiering and it is very helpful to be able to show friends how the sculpting and painting has changed over the years. Further, having some vintage figures allows one to see the progression from figures produced as toy soldiers to today's collectable military miniatures.

Therefore, I chose a set to photograph and post for other collectors to examine and, I hope, enjoy.

Below you should find five pictures of my Royal Canadian Mounted Police. These figures were produced by the Crescent Toy Soldier Company sometime between 1948 and 1954. They are 50+ years old. The paint you see on the figures is all original and a close examination of the figures reveals very few paint chips. I am most proud to have these figures in my collection and I hope you enjoy seeing them.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Pat,

If you're interested in Royal Canadian Mounted Police, there was a fellow on ebay in Germany selling off his entire collection. His user id is troop17. I was only interested because he had a K & C mounted RCMP, which unfortunately he could not find but if you go to the completed auctions section of ebay under his id, he has some stuff left, in case you're interested.

Pat,

Really great photos. I looked through my Crescent catalog copies which only cover the years before ’48 and no RCMP in these so they were probably made after that. The O’Brien book has its own numbering system which has them listed as #s “CR39 to CR41B”-which covers the five figures you show but not the Mountie firing the rifle. O’Brien also has a number #CR41C listed-a mounted Mountie-just a bit of minutia for you.

Hi pat
Great figures thanks for posting the shots,They realy do look to be in fantastic condition.
The only Rcmp figure I had seen before was a much newer
britains mounted figure.
Regards Rob

Pat: Thanks for pictures of the mounties. I have a shelf of mounties. Nice pictures. Leadmen

Pat,

I feel the same way about displaying my vintage 1980's and 1990's K&C figures. While they are not in the same league as the stuff produced today, it is nice to be able to trace the development of K&C over the last 23 years.

I have a older ad for K&C glossies.

Pat, the Mounties look very nice. What else do you have? What did ou pick up at London Bridge?

I have a older ad for K&C glossies.

Can you scan it and post or e-mail me a copy. We intend to scan all the old adds and flyers we can get as an appendix for the book.

I have the two earliest K&C adds, courtesy of a gentleman in Canada named Dennis DeRusha. They are from the June and July, 1984 issues of Military Modeling Magazine, and depict marching Seaforths and Seaforths standing presenting arms.

Louis,

I've already sent KV a pm about it. I want to see if it's one we don't have.

It is possible, I do not have a scanner though. The ad comes from spring 1989 OTS . The ad covers RA1 and 2, IA1 and 2, as well as IM1 at the unheard of price of about $89.00. Royal Artillery and Indian Army sets 1878-1902. Full color ad.

Can you mail it to me and we'll scan and send it back. Would that work for you? If so, I'll send you my address. Thanks.

Sounds great. I would love to get a copy. Do you have access to a color fax machine? If so, you can fax it to Bill Sager, who can scan it into his website like he did with a bunch of my old flyers. Then we could download it.

Louis,

Faxing would come out terribly. I think the best solution is to have KV send it one of us. I have a scanner or I can get someone at our graphics department do it so it looks great. We can then return it to him.

Maybe he can make a color copy and mail it to us. I would hate to see the original lost or damaged in the mail.

Thanks, KV! I am getting more and more excited about the book every day. I can't wait for Kevin to get started on the photography in July!

Do I get an honorable mention or something? I love being infamous. Maybe you can use Fisheads effigy of me!;)

I want to give everyone who helps credit, and I think my cohorts Hans and Larry will agree. Assuming they do, we will either mention everyone in an acknowledgment, or maybe give credit on the page the item appears on.

Some old Britains favorites.
