The Somerset "Lawrence of Arabia" figures are some of the finest figure I know.
Very, very nice {bravo}}

I found these at a show last week. I don't which regiment the guidon bearer belongs to but I believe the second figure is from the 5th Cavalry Punjab Frontier Force and the third from Skinner's Horse or 1st or 4th Bengal Lancers. I may write to Ron Leh to get a positive confirmation.

Brad, I believe, from the info I have, that the trooper in the red coat (Kurta), is of the 4th Bengal Cavalry, but I can't be sure because the headdress (Lungi) is so dark. The trooper in the green Kurta is of the 30th Lancers, aka 'Gordon's Horse'. The officer in the yellow Kurta is the 1st Skinners. -- Al

Thanks Al. I will take another photo of the trooper in the red coat. Is there a reference book that you consult or that you can recommend?

Brad, I no longer have any references on the Indian cavalry except a single 'Tradition' magazine, a Special Indian Cavalry Issue, #50. It is one of several references on the subject I used to have. I still have some basic notes from various unit histories I also used to have. Many of the regiments changed names and uniforms numerous times, thus it can be a confusing subject and it is not something I have kept up on for years. -- Al

Thanks Al. I have an Osprey book on Indian regiments but doesn't provide all the answers. I looked at the turban again and it's all blue or black.

Yeah, I still can't make an exact ID. Just not familiar enough with all the many uni variations. Boris Mollo did a book on Indian Army uniforms and A.H. Bowling did a book called 'Indian Cavalry Regiments 1880-1914' that is from 1971 and part of the Almark uniform series. It is brief but pretty decent. -- Al

Hi Brad,

In your first photo, it is difficult to tell, but does the guidon the fellow is holding appear to be blowing in the wind? If so, I believe the guidon bearer is a single figure from Somerset Set #SL-4, the 5th Bengal Cavalry - 1897, with Lances. The complete set consists of six figures, an officer and five troopers.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat,

It looks like it may. The guidon was a little hard to position because it kep sliding but I will take another photo.

Brad
