Spanish guerrillas (2 Viewers)

Next up is a Historex farmer I reworked a bit and an AIP Zouave with a Marx recast civil war head turned into a top hat.

This one is an Ideal Pirate figure with parts from a Conte Mexican along with some 2 part putty.

I,m going to try and do a Monk also. This will take awhile as its almost a scratch build but here is my start to the figure. I,ll build up from this ruff pose idea.
The other hand will hold a cross at some point.
And a wounded figure still in the ruff stages.

I grovel at your conversion feet! The man biting the cartridge made from the pirate is truly elegant.

Thanks Scott! Coming from such a great figure converter as yourself !
I really like how that one came out also but I wish his serpa???(blanket) had come out a little better. I kinda rushed it and I think it should have been a little larger.

I also like the guy with the blunderbust musket I made, he has a nice spanish guerrilla feel to him.

I,m running out of parts to use but I still have a lot of ideas in my head including cavalry, monks and priests, figures carrying of captured looted goods,dead/wounded,and I,m sure a whole lot more ideas if I make a trip to the Hobby bunker and look for chopable parts???

Pirates and rev war figures seem to be good cutting parts but I might be able to sneak in a lot of other little parts from just about anywhere??? I always keep my mind open and look at just about anything when it comes to parts searches.:rolleyes2:
Thanks again Scott!

Tim
You have the Barzso Robin Hood Figures. They are larger.
Also, the Conte Alamo Mexican Army Heads might fit in.

An Exacto with the putty could alter the hats sufficiently.
Keep posting pictures.
Denver

Thanks Denver! The Conte mexicans round hats had slipped my mind, looking through some pictures of guerrillas it seams they work well as heads to use. The uniform will work well as a Spanish army Uniform also but dosn,t have that guerrilla peasnt/civillian look that I,m looking for. Maybe one or two thrown in as desertors once my ranks swell up and I,ll try and give them a ruff campaign look?

The HOBBY BUNKER may still have some loose Robin Hood Friar Tucks in the bins. This one looks like he could hold a weapon. The Main Marion might be useful to.

Scott I actually found an old recast of that friar tuck figure I had mixed in with some other plastics but he is a miss molded figure and has extra plastic run off or air pockets or something that went wrong in the casting and it ruined the front and back of the figure.
I,ve decided to try and make one or two of my own with putty and plastic figure parts and I,ve already began work on the first one.
I used a cts mexican body for the base to work off of and added an arm from an Ideal pirate and the head of a Conte GI with his helmet pooped off. I,ll have to finish the rest of the head in putty to get that bald monk hair look were they just have hair around the sides and bald in the middle look.
I,m going to add a cross in the other hand.

The putty robe is just in its very early stages. I add a little at a time and just put on this head and hood last night.

In the back ground are a few ready for painting and a couple more getting close.

Tim...

You are, indeed, the Dr. Frankenstein of the toy soldier world! Great creativity and super results. I have been hacking Napoleonic arms and heads the past couple of weeks just to get some variation with these Italeri kits. While I enjoy converting...I am afraid I am just going through the paces with this batch. One figure looks right, one left, one forward...one figure's arm up..one down...one scratching his buttocks.

Which putty are you using?

Right now I,m using Kneadatite in the long 36in yellow/blue roll (turns green when mixed)
I get these rolls on Ebay for around $17-18 bucks with free shipping but I also use a few other brands also including milput and a few others if I find them cheap. They all seam to work a little different from brand to brand and i like some better then others and for different kinds of working texture and finer detail.
Try a few different ones and see what works best for you??? You might like something different then I do? Like I said there all a litttle different in texture and set up time also.
For instance I started this monk with kneadtite and I might do the fine detail in White supperfine Millput because of the fine detail you can get working it with a little water.

I,d get started off with some of this Kneadtite from Ebay!
You can get a smaller roll also for less money to try it out.

I am using "Green Stuff"...also a blue/yellow epoxy, but I find it a bit too "plastic" to work with comfortably. I really would prefer something softer and more maleable in the working stage. Play-doh would be ideal if it ever dried...but that kind of consistency anyway. That just made me think...I always thought Play-doh smelt edible. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it.

Wow. I can't wait to see them painted! I love the monk!
Great work,
Sandor:salute::

Edible play-doe??? mouth watering???^&confuse
Nick your scareing me now!, Stay away from the green stuff, it,s not ripe yet!

You should give the millput a try then its much softer and takes longer to set and you can get some real fine detail.
The only thing I hate about Millput is its real sticky and messy. If you mix it and its to soft just let it sit a little and it,ll get a little harder and a bit less tacky.
You might be one of the guys who prefers the millput over greenstuff.

If you try it let me know what you think. You can pick that up on Ebay for cheap also.

hey Fish

cracking conversions - very impressed with your ingenouity and skill - inspiring stuff.

looking forward to seeing them painted
