This movie has just been released on DVD here in the UK following a very brief cinema release and I received a copy of it as a Christmas present. In my humble opinion this movie is the very best British gangster film since the Long Good Friday way back in the 80's. In fact I'll go further and say it brushes up against Caine's- Get Carter- which once again I consider to be the very very best British gangster film ever put on celluloid.

St George's Day is a clever but brutal film and the script has a certain London criminal humour that had me laughing out loud and not for the wrong reasons. Pretty sure it wouldn't have crossed the pond yet but when/if it does- miss it at your peril-it is that seriously good. An indicator for that statement is that I recommended this to a pal of mine who went into the city after Christmas to purchase a copy-every single store had sold out so he went onto Amazon and they-at the time- too had run out of stock-appears a few others agreed with my view of St George's Day.
