Hi, Peter, and welcome to the forum!

I collect the 54mm Stadden "custom" figures, as well as from the other 54mm lines that Tradition acquired, from the Seven Years War and the Imperial German Army. Go to my user page, I have a gallery of some of the figures of Frederick the Great's army that I've painted. Other makers are represented, but a lot of the figures are Stadden 54mm In fact, I just received a Stadden Prussian hussar in the mail today, that I won last week on eBay. I'll have it painted soon and up on the gallery, too.

But where are my manners? Do you also collect, and if so, any particular periods, or manufacturers? Do you also paint or even cast any figures?

Again, welcome to the forum, prosit!
Brad

Welcome to the Forum. I am an avid collector of the 110mm only. I have 124 of them plus all of the mounted. I have a hard time identifying those produced after Toye, Kenning & Spencer took over. I have the previous catalogs, but only a large TKS pamphlet with a few of the post-Poole days or numbers after HP212. Here are three (HP245, HP246, HP247), but there are many more that some people like to call "rare" along with TKS repaints such as HP007.
P.S.
If you have any Stadden 110mm to sell or literature, I pay premium prices. PM me if you like. I don't do any chess pieces. Reguarless, any information you have please make it public.

Thanks to Obee´s talent we were able to give these fantastic samples of Stadden´s work a new lease of life and may be an additional 30 years of glory ( if my wife does not auction them off once I am no longer around {sm4}{sm4}{sm4})..

After seeing what Luiz has posted, showing off my last set of figures that I have repainted for him, I thought that you may like to see another STADDEN transformation ...

From this .... which came in a batch lot on Ebay .. a badly painted British 16th Lancer

l1.jpgl2.JPG

And I have repainted him as an Officer of the 17th Lancers.

l3.jpgl4.jpg

Nice transformation ???

And another Stadden that I can't show the before picture .. another trooper from the 17th Lancer on campaign who will be off to Brazil soon :)

Nice restorations, John!

I'll be on the hunt for Staddens at the East Coast Show next Sunday. Over the past year, I've picked up some Seven Years War British cavalry, which in my experience, are relatively rare. Here's a dragoon, which I painted as a trooper of the 1st (King's) Dragoons:

and a trooper of the 3rd Dragoon Guards (later, the Prince of Wales', but not in the SYW):

and then, 2 horse grenadier castings, which I painted for the 1st and 2nd troops of Horse Grenadier Guards. First troop:

and second troop (or the Scots troop):

I've added a gallery for my figures from King George's Army, and I'll eventually start a thread, but I need to photograph the rest of my collection.

Oh, and here's my Cumberland (sorry for the fuzzy focus):

Prost!

Brad,

thanks for showing us your Staddens, and especially King George's troopers, they look great !!!!

I have a local collector friend who will be at the East Coaster Show, who will also be on the lookout for some Staddens, and maybe he will find something nice to bring back for me :) :)

Maybe I should paint up my Duke of Cumberland and show him off ???

John

One I painted 40 years ago...

Nice, Mirof! Is that a 54mm, or is that one of the larger-scale figures? The detail is very good, and I like how your work on the lace came out, particularly.

Prost!

Thank you for the kind words, John, and you're very welcome!

The troopers represent an experiment, in that I used matte acrylics, instead of my usual enamels, because of the finely-cast detail, especially on the Horse Grenadiers. I first used enamels, which were too thick, so I stripped them a second time and started over. But in the end, it was all a wash (no pun intended), because the details were just too fine. The Duke, I painted some 15 years ago or so. And yes, please do paint yours, I thought you'd have him done by now!

As to your collector friend, well, maybe I will have to get there earlier than I had planned....

Prost!

No this one is a 80mm
About painting a face, my way of doing it :
paint face ( and hands ) with Humbrol flesh color
let it dry
put on the face, oil paint ( mine is Winsor and Newton ) Sienna
wipe with a sponge, all proeminent parts are automaticaly of a ligher shade and all recesses are very well define
put white ( humbrol in the eyes sockets
turn the figurines upside down, and with a pen and China ink ( sepia) , do the under part of the uppereyelid, then with brown or sepia or darkblue or darkgreen .... China ink, do the iris ( a part of it is invisible under he upperlid) then a small round pupill ( black ink )
then begin to had some umber in the recesses and brushe with a clean ( and dry ) brush, again wih a second clean brush, again with a third clean brush
do the same for the proeminent part adding a micro quantity of white, brush, clean, brush, clean .....
on a sheet of paper some umber + a tiny amount of red and a tiny amount of white, do the lips

The result is a guy who lives outside, and taned by the years

try do decenter the eyes, or the result is a guy with strabism, make him look slightly left or right
