I'm completely new to this and was wondering what materials everyone usually has on hand for making dioramas? (Fabric, bases etc...)

private ryan...

Everyone has things they prefer but, I always have some foam board bags of plaster and celluclay/claycrete, balsa wood from sheets to strips of varying length and plastic card. these are all what I see as essentials. I pick up anything and everything from wandering about my village from bits of red brick sandstone and interesting looking roots or branches. Its hard to say more as I have things which, I have stored in boxes for years and think it may come in handy.

I have craft knives chisels saws and constantly pinch my wifes craft tools and equipment.

It depends if you want to build yourself or buy ready made JG miniatures and buildarama have great things which, you can buy specifically to suit your requirements.

I have looked at the scenic matts available today but, as good as they are for speedy scenes I like doing my own. QUOTE=Private Ryan;359672]I'm completely new to this and was wondering what materials everyone usually has on hand for making dioramas? (Fabric, bases etc...)[/QUOTE]

I have different sized rocks, jars of sand, assorted sized twigs/branches and plenty of dried flowers/bushes/greenery.

Plus the usual knives, brushes, glue, modelling clay, offcuts of wood, plastis, foamcore etc...
