I spent many days and nights reading science fiction as a young boy and a teenager. I read all the great classic and pulp fiction type books - Bradbury, Heinlein, Hurbert, Howard, ad infinitum. When the first Star Trek appeared on NBC in the fall of 1966, I was hooked. Now I am not a "Trekkie". I am much more of a devoted follower than a detail oriented geek.

I just took my 9-year-old grandson to see the new Star Trek movie. I don't like to deal in extremes. But this movie makes me do so. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The action is believable and breathtaking. All will be answered. From Captain Pike to how the Enterprise was first "crewed up".

If you have been a fan or wonder what all the hype is about, this movie is the answer. They, the actors, have their counter parts dead on. Each actor is very, very believable in the role they play. I don't want to give anything away. I hope my review is obtuse enough to not spoil it for anyone.

Star Trek fans must see this movie and I will see it again, many times. It’s the best money I have spent in a theater in many years. GO SEE IT.

Great review. Seeing it tomorrow with my 31 year old son. We are both life long Trek addicts. -- lancer

I can't wait to see this one.I too have followed Trek since 66 and I know some people have been disappointed at the other movies but I enjoyed them and all the shows, but from what I've seen this one is great.

I liked it. I thought the actors that played Spock and Bones were the closest to their older counter parts.

Thanks for the encouragement mate; it was already a must see for another old time trekkie but you have made it all the more so. It will be nice to get the franchise back in the green, as they say.

My son isn't a Trekkie and mainly went to see the movie because he is a fan of Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead etc) who played the McCoy/Bones character. He said the movie was terrific and would see it again.

I liked a few of the original Star Trek episodes but The Next Generation episodes were better imo. I'll say again, that's just my opinion and I do not want easily influenced people to believe that I am trying to organize a boycott, or even a banning of the original Star Trek  :D

Next Generation was probably better but there will always be something special about the original and William Shatner is still going strong.Live long and prosper.

Hi guys,
I am not normally a Sci Fi fan but will probably go to see this one.
Eric Bana did a great radio interview about it (with Hamish and Andy - Oz readers will know them) and was very funny when talking about his Star Trek character coming up against Wolverine also played by an Aussie.
The Spock actor could be Nimoy's son ! Which I guess is the idea.
That leads me onto Shatner and a new thread !

Whoops, Pegg played the Scotty character, Karl Urban (Eomer and a baddie from The Chronicles of Riddick) played McCoy.

Just got back from seeing this with my son. All I can say is it is a fabulous sci-fi film with the added benefit of having characters many viewers have followed for years. The producers and writers stayed true to the characters of old and managed a very good story as well. All the actors were very good and resembled their characters very well. Might have to move it to #1 on the "best of" Star Trek film list. I was really amused by the little "trade mark" quotes of the characters that tied them in with the original shows. All in all a must see for any Trek fan and a good piece of Sci-fi to boot. -- lancer

I especially liked how Kirk named McCoy "Bones" and Chekof was a riot. :)

Saw it last night and would highly recommend to all.
In maybe 20 years I can imagine Simon Pegg playing the role of a certain toy soldier company boss !

Well Michael and the rest of you have convinced me. I'll give it a try. I liked Star Trek when it first appeared on TV but then I moved away to more realistic science fiction movies like The Body Snatchers with D. Sutherland.:D
