I recently picked up several sets of Steadfast figures. These sets are the originals before RP World acquired the molds. The sculpting and painting is pretty good, but not quite the same level as Trophy.

Does any member here actively collect Steadfast?

To the folks that have some Steadfast, What is your opinion of the quality?

They seem to come up fairly often on fleabay and I always bought them a very reasonable prices.

Anyone able to compare the originals to the RP World reissues?

Thanks for your input.

Chuck

Steadfast was Shamus OD Wade's line, wasn't it? I don't have any of his figures in my collection, I think he focused exclusively on British army and Imperial subjects. But if I remember correctly, the line is one of the first generation of "newer makers" to emerge after the classic period ended, and it's important for that reason.

Prost!

Brad, I think that "Nostalgia" was Shamus Wade's line.

Chuck,
I have a few of both the early Borbour Ent/Steadfast, as well as the later RP, and there doesn't seem to be a big differrence. I think they are the same molds.
I have some of the odd regiments of the Zulu War, like the Buffs, 6oth Rifles and Mule handlers, RE detachments, and the stall muckers.

Hi, Chuck, right you are! I stand corrected, Steadfast was one of Andrew Rose's brands, along with his Bastion Models, and the ones he did for Under Two Flags.

Prost!

Yea Mike, I was pretty sure that the molds were the same. Is the painting quality any better now with RP Models?

I've also noticed that RP Models website doesn't have all the figures listed that the old Borbur Enterprise produced. I wonder if they have the molds for those also?

I like the originals especially the Camels with Gatling Gun, Water Barrels, etc. They are not offered by RP and I still think the original painting was better. I am still finding duplicates of the Gatling Gun set, I liked it so much I bought a number of them. I don't see many of them anymore.

I visit RP at their workshop quite frequently and I have seen the Gatling gun camels there either painted or as castings, in fact the whole range is available as castings. There are some molds missing for some of the figures and equipment listed in the old Borbur lists which incidentally was purchased by Bob Prati from Jim Borrowman. Its brilliant to have a rummage round to see what little gems he has, last time I was there I picked up a great selection of plated band instruments along with the arms, just send him a email and ask, he is very helpful.

Regards John

No kidding. I dont want to seem like I don't appreciate RP, I do! BUT, I still think it is somewhat neat to open an old Steadfast box and see the originals!

Thank John for the info. The plated band instruments with the arms attached is familiar. Britains did that in the '60 with their "Eyes Right" plastic band figures. Some consider them to be the best band figures ever sculpted. The Scots Guards had them in gold and the Royal Marines in silver. It really dresses up the look of the figures. :)

Tom, I can see exactly where your coming from. Maybe not as neat as opening a set of prewar Britains, but still the old line (Burbor Ent.) compared with the new (RP Models).

Also for anyone interested in Steadfast here in the States, Green,s Collectables carries their line. Their website need updating.

Does anyone happen to have the URL for RP Models? As I followed this thread and saw the reference, I've googled "rp models", and found this site:

http://www.racing-cars.com/

but I didn't see any toy soldiers there.

I also found a site for "RP World":

www.rpworld.net

a tool-and-die maker, but that doesn't seem to be the one you all are talking about.

Thanks!

Prost!

Excellent, thanks, Jeff! I'm curious to see what they have out there.

Steadfast painting update. FYI

I recently obtained a Steadfast boxed set entitled "The Zulu War". The set consists of 12 figures. Six Zulu warriors and six (Officer and 5 men) of the 24th foot. Even though I have a fair amount of Steadfast sets, this set has the best painting I have evere seen on a Steadfast set. The quility is equal to Trophy and/or Imperial.

And before you ask, no the figures have not been repainted. :p

Hi Chuck,

Do you have any photos of this set? I would really love seeing the figures!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)
