A great Canadian Folk singer has pass.RIP Stompin Tom Connors's.

Canadian country-folk legend Stompin’ Tom Connors, whose toe-tapping musical spirit and fierce patriotism established him as one of Canada’s strongest cultural icons, has died. He was 77.

Connors passed away Wednesday from what a spokesman described as “natural causes.”

Brian Edwards said the musician, rarely seen without his signature black cowboy hat and stomping cowboy boots, knew his health was declining and penned a message for his fans a few days before his death.

“I know Tom loved the fans more than anything. He’s probably one of the few artists that built his whole life around fans and nothing else,” Edwards said.

“The man stood for everything that Canada stood for and he was very adamant that he stayed a Canadian and made it very apparent that he never left the country to advance his career and stayed very, very true to who he was.”

RIP Stompin Tom Conners

I know many of the forum members will not know who I am speaking about but Stompin Tom was/is a Canadian icon. He basically wrote songs about his cross Canadian adventures and about Canadian heroes. He was awarded "The Order of Canada" and received an "Honourary Doctorate of Law" along with his formation of A-C-T Records a new label that would record and promote Canadian music. Tom won six Juno awards but returned them as a statement of protest against the Americanization of the Canadian Music Industry.
Tom was well known to perform in small bars and theatres and his trade mark stomping of his left foot during the show would wear a hole in a piece of plywood. Along with the National anthem at hockey games, "The Hockey Song" is also played and is still played in most arenas across Canada and the US.
If you get a chance, I suggest you do an internet search and listen to some of Tom's music. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I have over the years. I was lucky enough to see Tom in concert on three occassions and every concert was awesome. Everyone knew the words and sang and stompped along.
With that I bid a fair thee good bye to a great Canadian. Don't lay down that guitar just yet old friend.

Moderators thanks for moving this. It didn't phase me that I put it in the Toy Soldier Discussion thread. Dave I didn't mean to re-post a thread you started. I didn't check the Lounge. Thanks for starting the thread in the first place.
