Yo Troopers, had to show you this set very strange one for Britains. It was made in China 1999 set #00076 16/5th Lancers. The horses are huge compared to Britains standard type horses, the set is very well painted reins & detail etc, there are 3 lancers, bugler & officer. But and I think I read it somewhere on this forum about Richard Walker being racist, by saying the Chinese couldn't do Toy Soldiers European style. I think this set backs up what Richard was trying to say, the Lancers look like Chinese War Lords, sorry photo is not better notice the faces typical Chinese style. Another thing struck me is being a new set from 1999, I have never seen it for sale on any site ie; ebay etc. If you look at second photo you see what I mean about the size of the Horses compared to a 13th Hussars from 1993. The box measures 5 1/4" wide to take this large set. Would like your comments on this set Troopers and any input about it would be helpful.
Bernard.

Bernard,

First of that is a lovely looking set :)

There does seem to be some incosistencies regarding the scale. I think it is that the lead series may have been too small. I have QEII, the Cloaked Scots Guard and the 9th Lancers Mounted Band (from the hollowcast series). They are also smaller when compared to some of the newer sets (them using the same original hollowcast mould). I have the Britains Circus horse riders and they are HUGE in comparison.

I have some similar sets made during the same time period. They are very well painted indeed.:) They are somewhat larger though and that was a little disappointing when I got my Hocker sets.:( Works great with the Durbar Elephants made during the same time.:)

I have two sets from the same era: The Royal Scotts Marching - 00126 and Duram Light Infantry - 00131. Both are nicely painted and among my favorites.

Not that I am aware of.

Maybe you will also recall that back in the late 90's or early 2000's, Britains decided to make their horses more comparable with their foot figures. There was some discussion that the 54 mm horse figures were disproportionately small when compared to the standing foot figure. (It never bothered me, but apparently Britains cared. Therefore, they increased the size of their horses.)

Oh okay I got you now. I need that set to go with the coach, not as easy to find as the coach unfortunatley :(
