Streets of Old Hong Kong Glossy Questions (1 Viewer)

Gary,

Patrick is one of K & C's trusted people and you can take anything he says as the gospel truth.

It sounds like you have an impressive collection. Have you seen the photos of Louis Badolato's or Lawrence Lo's collectiom that are posted on the forum. They have the best collection of SOHK that I've seen.

Dear Brad / "Jazzeum":

Thanks for reply back to me as well as for Raymond / "Glossman" in effect. As far as K&C"s SOOHK goes I now have a large display on an area of about 84 inches by 29 inches. One of my several articles published in TS&MF magazine was was entitled "My Wife's Favorite Display" (November 2004) was mainly about my or our Streets of Old Hong by K&C display. I understand from a realiable source that virtually all the people at K&C office are Chinese who were given non-Chinese first names I suppose to make it easier for non-Chinese customers to deal with. Thanks for your comment about "Patrick" @ K&C HQ. I have not seen the K&C SOOHK displays of other Forum members, but I will look it up very soon. Thanks, "Iron Brigade" / Gary 6:33 PM CST on 01/21/2010.

Gary,

I will post links later tonight to their collections.

Gary,

Here's a link to photos I took at the 2006 Symposium. You have to scroll through it but you'll get to SOHK photos.

Dear Raymond / "Glossman":

As for 1:32 to 1:30 scale buildings for the more current K&C SOOHK sets. Relative to building models in the SOOHK series it would not make much difference if the scale was 1:32, 1:31 or 1:30 as the figures at any of these scales would look OK in front of the model buildings anyway. You would have to ask Andy Neilson via E-mail if you would want further clarification on scale sizes of buildings.

Best regards, Gary / "Iron Brigade" 01/21/2010, 11:55 AM CST USA.

Dear Raymond / "Glossman:
I have many K&C SOOHK buildings and facades of buildings. A statement by another Forum member that all K&C SOOHK model buildings are in matte only is indeed mostly true. But do note that my set of HK 071 of the "Tea House" while mostly in matte does have a glossy bamboo or tile roof and likewise for my HK 074 of the "Pagoda" model building which also has a glossy roof while the rest of the structure is in matte.

Best regards, Gary / "Iron Brigade" USA @ 11:48 AM CST, 01/21/2010.

Dear Gary,

Thank you very much for your time and effort in providing answers to my questions, both on the forum and by email.

I now have a much better idea of the K&C SOHK sets.

You are right. I am not able to perceive any significant size incompatibiliy in the figures and facades in your wonderful SOHK display.

This fine series is meant to be enjoyed and appreciated, so we should not spend too much time over the details of scale and paint finish.
Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

Gary,

Here are photos from the 2007 Symposium. Go to post 12 and there are some SOHK photos.

Here are some photos from Larry Lo's collection. Unfortunately, my photographic skills are not up to the quality of the collection.

If you go to this page at Bill Sager's site, you should be able to find some SOHK photos in Louis' and Larry's collection.

Enjoy.

Dear Raymond:

Thank for your kind reply back!

Thanks for the intel from Patrick, Gary! SOHK is my favorite display to set up at the Chicago show. I hope you share pictures of your wife's collection with us.

Best regards,

Dear "Jazzeum":
Alas, I had tried to post some K& new "Hitler's Berghof" sets, but I could not get them to post. Raymond / "Glossman" was kind enought to post them for me. My rather basid old Gateway computer apparently was not up to the job in this case. So unless you get Raymond to post a few there will not be any I am afraid.

Best regards, Gary / "Iron Brigade" 01/23/2010 936 AM CST

Gary,

I would be more than happy to post photos of your SOHK sets. I'll send you my email address.

Regards,

Hi Gary,

It was a pleasure to give you some help on the forum previously.

Unfortunately, I did not do justice to your photos of the K&C Berghof which turned out rather blurred after posting.

To be honest, I have not found a good technique of posting photos on the forum as yet.

Rest assured, your SOHK photos are in good hands with Brad (jazzeum).

Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

Here are Gary's photos. Very nice collection.

Hi Gary,

I think you have an extremely nice collection of SOHK figures! I am pleased you sent the photos to Brad for posting so all of us can enjoy your collection. I would be proud to own such a wonderful group of figures!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Dear Brad:

Thank you so very much for posting the #5 photos of my K&C SOOHK display. You were very kind to do that for me!

Gary / "Iron Brigade" 01/24/2010, 12:18 PM CST

Dear Raymond:

Actually I thought that your #2 photos of my then new K&C "Hitler's Berghof" display that you posted for me were pretty good.. Indeed, I think Brad / "Jazzeum" just did a splendid job on posting the five photos of my K&C SOOHK which has many gloss figures as well as a bunch of matte ones as well.

Gary,

My pleasure. If you have more you'd like me to post, please send them along.

Dear Brad / "Jazzeum":

Thank you so much for your offer for posting another batch of photos for me some day! I just may take you up on the splendid offer! I will be completing a diorama of K&C's Age of Napoleon (all French sets) very soon on a round display table that is about 38 inches across.

Warm regards, Gary / "Iron Brigade" 01/27/2010
