This dive bomber is the symbol of Luftwaffe because only Germany had this kind of light bomber ( diving) and because it is a symbol of the early war "blitzkrigs".

It was conceived by the second ww1 german ace pilot ( after von Richtofen), Udet. Udet was also a stun pilot and during the years of sanctions against Germany, even secretely built a plane with pieces found around in his courtyard. Then he went to the US where he conceived and made building on september the 27, 1933 in Buffalo, the " Curtiss-Hawk", the prototype of stuka!
This plane had an issue: his speed diving was to high and Udet trying it in one occasion had to jump with his parachute at the last moment. Goering was interested in the project and bought Udet the 2 "Hawk" prototypes for more than 3000 dollars ( a huge amount for that time) at the condition that his specialists could study them. After studies and modifications, the breaks were put to avoid the diving speed to pass the 600 km/h.

Why no company makes this plane ? {sm2}

Hi Poppo,

There's a very real limitation on the ability of many collectors to house such a model. It would have a wingspan of a little over eighteen inches. My display cabinets can't take much more than fifteen, and I don't collect sets that I can't keep behind glass. For anyone who does have the room, I've heard mostly good things about the Figarti models. They did two or three different versions, I believe.

FIGARTI made 4 versions and i have them all and am very very happy with them,yes they are big but make for a great display.

I just wanted to write the conceiving story of the stuka, I think just a few peoplle knew about this....
