Suggestions for novice (1 Viewer)

Being new to the K&C scene, I recently found out K&C made a Gordon Bagpiper that was retired. I also heard that K&C may have made highland dancers at one point, but I haven't been able to confirm this.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I start to hunt down pieces such as the Gordon Bagpiper.

The dancers would really be enjoyable pieces to obtain, so I would also be interested if anyone could confirm their existence. My pipers play a lot better when the girls are dancing. =)

Since you're new to the scene, first make sure that you're ready to give away your paycheck since it's pretty addictive. One sight that you should check and bookmark is www.toysoldiersusa.com
This site lists most every King and Country ever put out. This site also has pictures of the brochures and catalogues so what's not listed may show up in the catalogues.

One good place to look frequently is ebay. As far as your original request, you may want to get in contact with dealers and let them know what you're looking for. Another way is shows. The best show in the US is coming up in Chicago in late September so if you can make it there that might be a good place to look.

Welcome aboard Petri (Brian on 1 of your posts, right?),
One suggestion would be to think about where you'd like your collection to be in one year's time. i.e. will WWII be the focus? Or will it be Napoleonics, not to mention American history (American Revolution, Alamo, Civil War, The West, Rough Riders, Vietnam, 1st Gulf War, Afghanistan/Iraq have all been done by K&C). There's no harm in buying a set or two from different series to get a feel for the quality, the scale and the likely impact upon space and/or budget available.
Whatever you previous addiction you should prepare to resigning yourself to at some stage it losing its number 1 spot in your affections.

That's very funny you should say that Joe. I find it difficult to keep up with both my addictions, not to say expensive. From the cost point of view, K & C is winning out.

Yes, this started out with a someone buying me a K&C Blackwatch piper. I wanted to get anything that was a Piper, but then that changed to all BW stuff. =)

Now I have no clue. I love it all. Egyptian, Silk Road, Napoleon, ect. ect.

All I do know - I'm definately staying away from WWII stuff, too much for my budget to handle. =)

My ultimate dream would be for Andy to do a 1930s - 1940s Big Band arrangement with some Lindy Hoppers and of course the Savoy Ballroom for them to go in. I think it would compliment the WWII fellas, they're troops really do need some good R&R entertainment !!! =D

Don't stay away from the WW II stuff; that's really the best stuff in my view, not to belittle Egyptians and Hong Kong.

I could just get more carried away with the vehicles and the budget doesn't compliment those needs. =)

I think the napoleonics are the best myself but very expensive. Each guy costs 25 to 54 dollars and after you buy 4 of them you could have had a tank and guys not to mention the amount of men that napoleonics requires compared to WW2. The first artillery piece is coming out and I'm really excited.. 1 cannon and 3 guys for 105.00 can't beat that!!! I hope Andy comes out with more artillery and rocket platoons or even wagens or limbers which will make the collection much more interresting. I sometimes get envious of the WW2 stuff because of the vehicles etc...but I love the uniforms and the time period of Napoleon thats why I chose this time period for myself. Choose a time period that you have always had a love and passion for and then just concentrait on that and before you know it you will have a great collection. I know we are all history buffs and probably love all time periods but chose your favorite. If you are worried about space the napoleonics are great I use small glass display cabinets making each shelf a small diorama which looks great and saves space. I bought the cabinets from Ikea for a minimal amount of money as well as looking great in my dining room area. If you use good taste you could even get your wife to agree... Good luck.

The exact set you described, with the Glenn Miller Band, swing dancers, and a stage set, was produced by Frontline about 10-15 years ago. It is out of production, but comes up at shows periodically. You should look for it, it really is a special set.

With regard to your original question, King & Country did make highland dancers (male millitary dancers) to go with the Gordon Highlander series. I would check with Gideon at Classic Toys or Pam Brunton at Brunton's Barracks as I know they have some of this series in stock (although I can't promise the dancers). Tommy Atkins also recently did a Culloden era Jacobite Highland fiddler & dancer set which Gideon definitely has (he just gave me one).

If I'm not mistaken Louis and I saw this at the Valley Forge show. Perhaps Louis remembers who had it.
