I went over John O'Briens house (Obee on here)the other night for a beer and to see his awesome collection and saw some JJ figures in person for the first time and they where superb.I always thought they looked abit cartoony in the pics but i was so wrong now i want to collect some but not sure of which line to start on?I cant afford them all so im definatly going for the "Knights of the sky + maybe the spanish civil war and im thinking the Sudan campaign but i also like the indian wars, any advice from collectors of these lines thanks alot, and my apologies to JJ for the cartoony explanation but like i said i was so wrong.

My suggestion would be the Culloden range. The dramatic poses of the Highlanders charge and the many 'combat' sets make it really stand out. I think my favourite part is the colours. The kilts are so vivid and varied. With the whole set (and I'll only have half myself) the eye is drawn to so many different pieces of action.

And yes I too thought JJ looked a bit wooden and stocky compared to the Conte and K&C figures that I get but in the 'flesh' they look fabulous!

Wayne,

The only JJD range I collect is the Sudan, so that is all I can suggest, but they are really nice figures and affordable.

IMO, any of the series will make you happy. I second the suggestion about the Jacobite series. This is the best collection of TS on the market, dynamic and colorful. The series is also still available in entirety, with the exception of one set that can be found on the secondary market. Welcome to the JJD side of the hobby.:salute:: -- Al

If you are a completist, then go with 1812, Jacobites or Sudan. Some of the early FIW sets are not readily available. I agree that the Jacobite line is the best developed and colorful. Lots of great action poses. But the final decision is probably dependent on where your historical interest lies.

You original post hit my suggestion right on the head - Knights of the Sky, Spanish Civil War, Sudan and Jacobites in that order. I collect all these lines, and I couldn't be more pleased.

I focus on Quebec City which I have been to many times, and will also do Spanish Civil war - can't pass up those early tanks and armoured cars and trucks. Then I get a sampling of 1812. Ive been to most of those forts and battlefields as they are just up the highway from me. And a sampling of Sudan for my British Empire collection.

Quebec for me as well ....Snowshoe... Monongahela....Francis....Knights of the sky....and the new Ticonderoga...would like to do Chippewa 1812 some day ???

New forum member here I have just started collecting John Jenkins figures. Have been getting the War of 1812 figures. Many battles occurred around my area and I have been fascinated by them. The figures are wonderful and highly detailed, i could not be happier.

Are the figures that are out now from this period all that have been available?? I noticed some mounted officers and pike men in a diorama on this site??

Striker...

if you live near the Canada border or Niagra area...

I'm sure there were many battles in your area around 1814...

all the figures for Chippawa are still available at most dealers...

they are pretty much retired status already...almost all of them...

but again...they are still available in some limited numbers...

the USCH-08...Officer with National Colours...flag bearer would be the most difficult to find...

but there is one on Ebay right now...and I personally sold one on Ebay last week...so they can be found...it's hardly the "White Whale" set yet...

http://cgi.ebay.com/John-Jenkins-US...590289183?pt=Toy_Soldiers&hash=item35b040951f

I personally think this is the best JJD series made...

have fun and good luck...

Just looking at John Jenkins for first time.Lots of action and very colorful.Would like to see in the flesh.Anyway a hard choice between Culloden and one of the many French and Indian War series. reading through forum to get a better idea.thanks

I also have felt that JJ figures look cartoonish on photo, but have never seen one live. The «Neanderthal» faces on photo have always put me off but I wouldn't be surprised if I did change my opinion radically after seeing these figures live. Some forum photos here make me believe that might be possible. The thing is stock photos and other overblown photos can be quite deceiving: details and «neandertalish» faces look much larger and worse than they really are, after all in your hand these figures are 54-60mm at most and details look much smoother, happens all the time. JJ's ranges look very well done and thought out, if I went for them I would probably go for the Sudan Range (I already collect FIW from Britains and John Firth painted figures and the Jacobite Rebellion from Tommy Atkins-things of beauty and also suffering from very deceiving overblown photos that can put you off, but that's another story).

Paulo,
The had the same thoughts and worries about the faces. They looked over animated in pictures on the JJD website or on Treefrog. I decided to take the plunge and buy a set. I can assure you that they are much better in person and you will be happy with them...the stock photo's do not do the figures justice...I have been buying the Sudan figures since they came out..and can't wait for more.

Paulo i thought the same thing until i saw them in the flesh and i was real "SURPRISED" hence this thread they are great looking figures,in a league of there own,i cant wait to get the WW1 planes and crews that is going to be line of JJD to collect.

Agree with you Wayne. JJ figures are very nicely done. Brett at Military Workshop has many on display. Given other commitments I haven't purchased any but the woodland indians are very special. I have them on hold until I win the Loto!
