Hello all - I am new to the forum, and I need some help identifying and understanding some toy soldiers. I have three sets by "C.C. Ohlssons Leksaksfabrik." I've found little to no information online and in reference books about this maker. All I know is that they date between 1894-1933 and are Swedish. One set features Karl XII (Charles XII) of Sweden with Infantry soldiers, the next are English Infantry Band soldiers, and the last are German Calvary (16 figures - 8 riders, 8 horses). They range in size from 55mm semi round to 40mm half-round. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hello redee,

Have a reasonable reference library, including some older books. Included are;

LEAD SOLDIERS AND FIGURINES – The World in Miniatures, Baldet, Marcel, Crown Publishers, New York, NY, 1961 (No ISBN).
COLLECTING OLD TOY SOLDIERS, McKenzie, I., Batsford Ltd, London, 1975, ISBN 0-7134-3036-2
THE WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MODEL SOLDIERS, Garratt, J.G., F. Muller, London, 1981, ISBN 0-87951-129-X

Unfortunately can only find mention in the last book listed, essentially corroborating what you already know (no new additional information). Have unsuccessfully tried to include an image of the page entry (forum upload size limitations). Suffices with that dearth of information, I would make the same conclusion you probably already have, extremely rare sets. Congratulations, particularly if they are in even halfway decent condition.

Best regards,

Thank you Arnhemjim! I can't seem to read the scan - is there any way you could send it again with higher resolution?

hello redee,
Hopefully this will be better. To manipulate images on this forum is a MAJOR CHALLENGE, to put it mildly. I reviewed the edited page (abbreviated to only facts about Ohlsson) and it should be at least legible.

From the pictures, it sounds like Garrett's description is pretty accurate. They're semi-round, similar to Prins August's 40mm semi-rounds from the look of them.

Does Google Drive have a feature to get links for individual images? If it does, you'd be able to paste those links in a post here, rather than having to upload the photos all over again.

Prost!

Hello redee,
I would like to ask your permission to use the images of your Ohlsson sets, with attribution and acknowledgement, on my Blog page, as they are both old, in remarkable condition, and semi-unique. I'm certain you have also noticed that their base design is unique, and may well have influenced bases used byEriksson/Authenticast. If you are possibly interested the blog page is; http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com .

.
Best regards,
Arnhem Jim

Given Mirof's knowledge and providing that information, please disregard my request. Sincere thanks Mirof, intriguing data. Obviously another article would be redundant and unnecessary.
Regards,
Arnhem Jim
