SYW001-SYW013 Prussian 7th Line Infantry Regiment Pre-Order (1 Viewer)

Baron, thank you for scanning and posting the images. These are indeed the same illustrations. I noticed that neither of the diagrams shows where the sappers would be. I am surprised that First Legion didn't included one in this initial release. The sapper figure is one that is often made as a standalone figure for painting. Any ideas where he would go?

As to Gebhard's question as to my future plans, I would have to say it is too early. I have yet to see a figure in my hand, a must before I make any decisions. I will say I am excited about this new range.^&grin

King's Man

Hi KM ,
A far as I know , a Sapper as we know them in Napoleonic times was not the same in the Army of FdG and the 7th Prussian Line Infantry Regiment Braunschweig-Bevern would have none . They would be part of the technical troops associated to the artillery: pioniers, mineurs, pontoniers and an Engineer Corps .
Like yourself I'm very excited about this range it will be second only to my Napoleonic collection , I look forward getting my first few and then my plan is to try and build over time a full Platoon and if I hit the Powerball tonight for $ 325 million I would think a full battalion would be on order :redface2:^&grin^&grin . Regards Gebhard

Just thought a bump on this thread may be in order. Still working on that platoon :redface2:

So, they had 82 men per platoon? How many platoons in a company? How many men in a battalion? Did they have three battalions in a regiment?

I also put the Duffy book on my Amazon wishlist for Christmas. That is about when I will get to it.

Hi, Brad,

This reference from the Seven Years War project page may help you:

http://kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=Prussian_Line_Infantry_Organisation

The normal strength of a Prussian infantry regiment was reckoned around 1800 men, at the time of the Seven Years War. The Prussians divided their regiments into 2 battalions of 6 companies each, 5 of musketeers and 1 of grenadiers. Company strength was around 140 individuals, including staff. The administrative and line company organizations differed, however; that is, the men who belonged to a company administratively did not necessarily service with the same company, when the battalion deployed in the battle line. When it came time to deploy, men were simply counted off till the number was filled.

The grenadier companies were detached and joined with the grenadiers from another regiment into a grenadier battalion. Since grenadiers were recruited from among veterans and were selected for their aggressive and robust qualities--not for height, as in some other armies--this gave a commander a unit of reliable, hard-fighting men to deploy as necessary, often as we would think of assault troops in later periods. The grenadier companies' administrative and line organization did coincide, unlike that of the musketeers'.

Duffy's book is an excellent overview. I bought mine some 20 years ago or more, and I re-read it often.

Hope that helps, prost!
Brad
