I am surprised that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of figures for the Taiping Rebellon of 1850-1864. This is covered in 2 Osprey volumes. Unfortunately the one specifically on the Rebellion is currently out of stock. Here are the covers and some sample illustrations

K&C's Imperial China Series comes the closest to the theme but there are no Westerners. Charles "Chinese" Gordon (b&w photo) was among the Europeans who trained the Chinese "Ever Victorious Army". As one can see from the cover of the Osprey volume on the Taiping Rebellion there were Western troops.

In plastic, Red Box is producing a lot of figures for the Boxer rebellion. You may want to adapt these.

Hi Randy,

Yes Redbox is 1/72 scale.

Armies in Plastic does a Boxer set in 1/32 scale! See this website:
http://www.armiesinplastic.com/documents/boxer_rebellion.html

failing that, I attach a pic of my own homecast qing mandarin

Wow, have your seen the film The Warlords about the Taiping Rebellion?

I have some Armies in Plastic sets but not the Boxers--I will take a look at them. What do you think of the Boxers made by East of India?

King-White (Reeves) also had a series of Boxers in its catalog, and they could probably pass for the earlier period.

Prost!

Hi Randy,

No. I am not familiar with the "Warlords" in the Taiping Rebellion movie.

The Eof I figures looks quite nice (at least two sculpting styles?), and it looks like reference was taken from the Osprey MAA Boxer Rebellion book.
