"A man working at his parents' motel in the Catskills inadvertently sets in motion the generation-defining concert in the summer of 1969. "

When we went to the Smithsonian last summer my 16 year old daughter bought a repro Woodstock T- shirt at the gift store.

Now she is doing a power point on the Woodstock Festival for American history so we watched the famous Woodstock documentary and last night, this comedy which is the John Wayne Alamo version of the real Woodstock story. A good number of the characters in Taking Woodstock are based on actual folks involved such as Michael Lang, Elliot Teichberg, and Max Yasgur. I was a teen at the time and I only heard about the Festival from a distance. I was able to help my daughter's project by giving her context of 1969.

This is R rated so be warned that you'll see people having a good time with out being punished in some way. :wink2:

I haven't seen the movie but do remember it well although I was overseas at the time. One of my colleagues went and when she got back she said she was covered in mud from head to toe. Rhino put out a nice 6 cd collection a couple of years back. It's OOP now but well worth getting. It's a real blast.

I have always been a fan of all things Woodstock even though I was too young and not born yet! I have seen this movie and found it entertaining. Great music and I second Brad's recommendation on the box set, came out on the 40th Anniversary. One of my favorite songs of all time is the CSNY version of Woodstock.

An unscientific poll conducted while I was making my inspection rounds at work today told me that unless you well really into the history or had "lived" it, or were over 50, it was : "Woodstock?" So a good number of folks alive today might not "get" Taking Woodstock even as "period piece."

Look for Paul Dano as a "hippie." He's in Cowboys and Aliens, There Will Be Blood, and Little Miss Sunshine. Richard Thomas (John Boy Walton) makes an appearance as well as Liev Schreiber (Defiance) as a security chief.
