The Military History Channel is starting a series on Greatest Tank Battles this Wed., Jan.5 @ 10pm EST. Should be good. -- Al

I don't know about sacking perhaps they should start with the 1940 battle of Gembloux 14th and 15th may 1940 where more french and german AFV's faced each other than at Kursk. Two full strength panzer divisions with 300 AFV's each fronted two light french mechanised divisions with about 260 AFV's each.

To many myths surrounding the Kursk battle and how big it was really have derived from Martin Caidens book ''the tigers are burning'' some good new books dispell the myths of thousands of tanks rolling across the plains of russia in the seering heat of summer.

The first episode is, "The Battle of 73 Easting."

The most studied tank battle, the Battle of 73 Easting during the Gulf War.

This is the discription of the episode on Direct TV's guide.

That's very very interesting that they selected that engagement. Should make for a great kickoff to the whole series.

Cambrai would be one I would like to see.

Warriors rage: The great tank battle of 73 easting is a very good account of the action.

73 Easting is interesting as a starting point. I guess they wont go all the way back to WWI to discuss some of the A7V vs various allied tanks. I dont have AFN here so I will have to rely on what you guys say about it until I can get a DVD copy. Had several close friends involved in 73 Easting as Tank Commanders and Staff officers so I will really be interested in what they have to say.

Good point about Caiden's book. It is a mess. I have always liked his airwar related books. He should have left the tank war on the Eastern Front to people who know about it. -- Al

Like it so far. Next episode is Golan Heights with Centurions. -- Al

This was a really interesting episode. I had some idea about the battle but was not fully aware of the numbers involved and the odds against the Isralies. The Centurion vs the T-55 was superbly done. -- Al

The next show, Wed. Jan.19, is about the Battle of El Alamein. -- Al

The next show, Wed, January 26, "The Battle of the Bulge: Race to Bastogne."

Pretty good series, so far. I have enjoyed all the episodes. They have been well and clearly done. -- Al

The upcoming episode, Wed. Feb.2, is the battle for the Hochwald Gap. -- Al

Never seen a doc on this action will be very interesting to see what they do with it
