This month TCM has about 3 dozen ACW related films slated for viewing on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 8pm EST. Don't have a line up yet, but the ad showed "Glory", "The Horse Soldiers", "Red Badge of Courage", "Major Dundee", "Gettysburg", and others. -- Al

Don't know yet. Probably will, I imagine. Good film and well worth watching again.^&grin -- Al

I hope TCM in Australia do something similar soon. Alvarez Kelly is one of my favourites. I like Richard Widmark.

Always get a thrill at the charge over the bridge at the end of Horse Soldiers. One of many Wayne movies with Ken Curtis.

Ken "Festus" Curtis is a great character actor. Been in a huge amount of westerns. Played Texas Ranger Charlie McCory in "The Searchers". He was also in a show called "Ripcord", but I can't remember much else about that one. -- Al

Alvarez Kelly "works" as a CW film because it is more of a western which Hollywood knows how to make very well.

...and Richard Widmark was really cool as an anti-hero. See The Long Ships and he does comedy.

See "Saint Joan" and he played the wimpy Dauphin, Charles VII

True. The film is a very "western" story played out in Virginia. It is based on a true event that took place during the war, in Virginia. Occurred in September, 1864 and was carried out by Wade Hampton. Edward Boykin wrote a book called "Beefsteak Raid" that recounts the incident. -- Al

Here's my favorite ... Horse Soldier. Dang it's hard to beat John Wayne, William Holden and John Ford to boot!

"I'd ride right down to hell and back for Ulysses Simpson Grant". Great show. -- Al

One of my all time favorite movies hands down.

"That holy Joe ain't no kid".......

Can't count the number of times I recreated the battle in the town or the charge across the wooden bridge as a kid with my Marx figures, great stuff.................
