I thought I'd pass this op ed piece that was in yesterday's New York Times about Lincoln's Team of Rivals since this is in the news lately with Obama's possible appointment of Clinton to the cabinet.

Please do not turn this into a political thread as that isn't the intent here.

Brad,
not political, but he seems to be picking a lot of Clinton related people, did you read the other op ed piece on that, kind of interesting in my opinion. I wonder if that will ruffle feathers on both sides. The Clintons, love them or hate them are a powder keg.

I'm really sick of people trying to tie O'bama in to great people, he's a rank ametuer who's done nothing except tie himself to the old party system, I've seen and heard him mentioned with Lincoln, FDR, MLK, Kennedy etc.etc.etc... It's totally insulting to these greats.
I'm sure there all turning in there graves....

And don't forget the Messiah. On Jan 21, 2009 He will come down from heaven and solve all our current problems.
"Your deeds will live after you". It is what he has yet to accomplish that he should be judged by. Good Luck.

That's a good observation. I think the Clintons' baggage played a large part in Obama's victories in the party primaries. I think many people who had an ax to grind with those two saw Obama as the possibility to break the hold the Clintons had on the party ever since Bill's first campaign. A rebellion had been building ever since the loss in 2000.

That he is black was also seen as an advantage for those who think in terms of groups politics, too. But I think if it hadn't been for the Clinton history of the last 14 years, Obama might still be a local Illinois politician. I think he was at the right place at the right time, if you will, in a manner of speaking.

Prost!

Mike,
In view of your Forum name 1979fanatic I thought for a second the Messiah reference might relate to Rorkes Drift as it is almost the anniversary. Perhaps that might be taking 1879 fanatic too far. Stanley Baker/Chard for President ?
However I am guessing it is when Obama formally becomes president.
