I doubt that anyone in the vicinity of a magnitude 7.8 quake has Internet access, but do still want to say that our Kiwi friends are in our thoughts.

Hope all our Kiwi friends are ok and that the severity/damage is at a minimum. -- Al

Thanks Guys, yeah got woken up at about 4:30am by some overseas mates very concerned about this new big shake. It's mainly hit the middle of the South Island again, just north of Christchurch, but our capital Wellington has taken a hit as well this time and the CBD is shut down.

There are reports of injuries coming through now and at least one death and one missing in a collapsed building, however it hit at midnight and updates are slow to come through.

The Tsunami warnings are still in place and reports of waves rolling along the East coast of NZ.

This was a shallow quake, hence the damage and rolling ground movement and there's been some big after-shocks already.

Hi Randy,
We are all OK. The centre of the quake was on the east coast of the South
Island, north of Christchurch. There is damage in Wellington but none here.
We are about 60 miles north of Wellington ... plenty of shaking in the
night.

Best regards,
Ian & Allan

Land surfing cows, now that's a new one Toddy! It looks like the sheep missed out on the action though...^&grin

Nice story mate and glad there was a good outcome for them and the tourists.

Moo! This is a time when mates help each other, even when they keep flogging you in Rugby....wonder if there are any Irishmen in Kaikoura at the moment?:wink2:

Funny you say that mate, yeah there are quite a few UK & Irish tourists down there, but not too much 'Green' being worn right now......Ireland are the new boogy-man for NZ rugby right now.{eek3}{sm4}

Amazing how they evacuated over 600x folks yesterday from Kaikoura via the Navy & Airforce. Quite a few Aussie Airforce members helping out as well now too!!

Looking forward to see the international Naval fleet arrive later today apparently.:salute::

Haven't heard anything recently on the U.S. news. How is everybody down under? Hope things have gone as well as they can under the circumstances.
