TET'68... The Battle Begin... (1 Viewer)

Thanks Jazzeum. I’ve read many of the classic Vietnam war books, but not come across Tim O’brien’s.
Also, though not direclty about Hue, but Karl Marlantes’s Vietnam book Matterhorn is superb.

O'Brien's books are fantastic. He speaks for the soldiers who fought there.

I have Marlantes' book and I will be reading it soon. It's another well recommended book.

Brad:

With this new release from K&C I too plan on reading Marlantes' book.

I liked O'Brien's book, The Things They Carried, because it got into the minds of the soldiers, before, during and after the war. There's a lot of coping and not coping. I highly recommend this book.

Did you read Going After Cacciato. It’s different than The Things They Carried but very good.

No, I didn't. I did read his other war book (something like, If I die put me in a box...), which was similar to, The Things They Carried, but not as good.

One of the best books about Hue is Eric Hammel's "Marines in Hue City"..lot of pictures and the description of combat minute by minute..:)

I think you're referring to If I Die in a Combat Zone, which is autobiographical.

Hopefully along the line Andy, you'll think about doing something like this photo of these Marines.
