San Antonio is a great city and well worth the trip. It looks like the show has grown considerably since I was last there which is awesome. This is a show that everyone should do at least once. The river walk has some great places to drink and a ton of bars with music and lot of open street music as well. There are good history sites there too. Not just the Alamo.

I echo what Chris says. San Antonio has so many great attractions beyond the Alamo. The Riverwalk has something for everyone. Not that I am a restaurant connoisseur, but I highly recommend Ostra. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Menger and is actually in my top 5 restaurants in the world.

I average at least 2 trips a year to San Antonio from West Texas and must say it is worth the trip each and every time. The Alamo, KingsX, Texas Toy Soldier Show, River walk, Mad dogs Girls, ^&grin ^&grin ^&grin

THE TEXAS 2013 TOY SOLDIER SHOW
MAY 25 & 26
INSIDE THE HISTORIC MENGER HOTEL

PRESS RELEASE

“MEDICS HELPING MEDICS”
WELCOME to this year’s TEXAS 2013 TOY SOLDIER SHOW! This great “Collector Show” has become the fastest growing event of its kind in North America.
The Show brings together the top toy soldier dealers, manufacturers and collectors from all over the world right into the uniquely historic heart of Texas….. San Antonio.
For two entire days, over Memorial Day Weekend, 25 and 26 May, 2013 San Antonio’s own MENGER HOTEL is where you will see all kinds of fantastic toy soldiers and military miniatures to suit all tastes…and all sizes of budget!
The Special Theme of this year’s show honors the U.S. Army’s Medics and Nurses who have bravely and faithfully tended and saved hundreds of thousands of GIs in conflicts ranging from the Civil War to present day wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

SPECIAL FIGURES

Show organizers, San Antonio’s own KINGS X and leading international manufacturer KING & COUNTRY have collaborated to design and produce TWO very special 2-figure sets showing WW2 Medics doing what they do best…helping save wounded GIs
KINGS X’s Martin Vasquez explains, “As San Antonio is home to Fort Sam Houston where all US Army Medics are trained we felt it was appropriate that we come up with some figures that are relevant to not only Sam Antonio but would appeal to collectors all over America and the rest of the world.”
“And, as World War Two is the most popularly collected range of toy soldiers we thought it would be great to produce medics of that era.”

KINGS X then brought in KING & COUNTRY, one of the world’s leading designers and producers of toy soldiers to help. K&C’s Co founder and Creative Director, Andy C. Neilson continues, “When Martin and I got together I loved the idea and suggested we use these special sets to help raise funds for some very special charities that assist battlefield casualties from places like Iraq and Afghanistan.”

OLD ALLIES….OLD FRIENDS

As KINGS X is American and KING & COUNTRY is British, the two companies agreed that they would support “Operation Comfort” a U.S. based charity that assists wounded American servicemen and women and “Help For Heroes” a similar organization in the U.K.
K&C’s Andy C. Neilson goes on,” I was fortunate to visit the fantastic U.S. Army Medical Museum at Fort Sam Houston on my last Texas visit and was inspired by the great exhibits I saw there. I’ve incorporated some of these in the two battlefield sets we have produced …. In one a kneeling Medic is providing a blood transfusion for a seriously wounded GI. In the other a Medic is directly in the frontline carrying a wounded GI out of harm’s way…hopefully to a nearby aid station.”
Both special “MEDIC” sets will be premiered at the upcoming Texas Show over Memorial Day Weekend and will be available world-wide to all collectors a few days later.

SPECIAL BATTLEFIELD DISPLAY

To help raise even more funds King & Country’s own Gordon C. Neilson has designed and built a special battlefield diorama that incorporates both sets and military vehicles into a unique display that will be auctioned off during the 2-day show itself.
As America’s fastest growing toy soldier event, the Texas ToySoldier Show organizers feel it is important to not only remind visitors of the historic past through toy soldiers, but also help them recognize and honor the courage and sacrifice of today’s real soldiers.

Outstanding Guys, I will be in on the bidding for the Diorama being auctioned off for charity ! Thanks for the Info !!!

I have attended the shows in Valley Forge, Chicago and San Antonio (3x). As a collector, you should try going to a show if you have not done so. The Texas Show is over a long week end and on my birthday, so I plan on being there. For those of you wanting more of the Cavalry vs. Plains Indians take a look at what is coming from the pictures of the Westcoaster show this last week. Custer is my favorite series to collect, and hats off to Andy for revisiting that line. I am all in on buying each and everyone of those babies. Hope to see many of you in San Antonio!

I talked with Martin today in Dallas at the http://www.lonestarfigureshow.com/ in Dallas! He is very excited about their show in May! Can't wait..just about two months away! Spud
