Firstly I wish to thank Howard, Joe & Mike for their kind effort & their wonderful photos from the WestCoaster show. Its a small measure of compensation for those of us unable to make the actual event. :)

... does any Treefrogger have any tidbit to share from the manufacturer's events, particularly what's possibly coming over the horizon :wink2:

Stephen Chong, our usual show reporter extraordinaire, missed the West Coaster as he was a bit under the weather. I spoke to him yesterday, and he is doing a lot better.

Perhaps Carlos (Desk11Desk12 - usually the most proliffic show photographer) or Tom Dubel can give us a report.

Thanks Louis .. hope Stephen is feeling better.

Maybe we just have to wait until after this coming weekend to hear some gossip from NY :salute::

Don't worry, I will be sure to post updates throughout the Symposium, :wink2:but the photography will have to come from someone else.

Gossip - not too much of that. However, I think we can figure the following based on response at the show:

King & Country:

1. New WW1 Airplanes are awesome in person. They will be neat and will feature the 3 respective "aces" as add on figures - Voss, Goering and Red Baron. I think the Kaisers Staffwagen in person is incredible, it is a very large set and the vehicle itself is really neat.

2. Gloss figures - I bet if they do well, we will see all kinds of goodies released in that series of the Indian Armies.

3. Napoleon in Egypt - great camel and the artist set is really very cool. I love the desert anything. I think this could be a very very good series.

Figarti:

1. The Wake Island Gun is very neat piece and is a hit.

2. The New Panzer is highly highly detailed and one of the best tanks I have seen.

3. The New Prime Mover is very very cool also.

4. Recently released 88 is the best of all the previous Figarti ones. Definitely my favorite!

5. Expect more interesting items as time passes!!

That is about what I know.

We did see some wonderful pictures of the 1:30th figures but few of other sizes. For those who didn't attent\d but would like to at a later date, it gives the impression that there wasn't much else. In truth, most of the show consisted of 1:32 glossies, many of them old, and many plastics. In fact, the three largest presenters were the Old Toy Soldier Home (new and old 1:30 and 1:32), Scott Morlan (old 1:32) and Toy Soldiers of San Diego (plastics). The Hiriart soldiers shown by Mike Tarantino are as fine as you can get . . . I finally broke down and bought a set I'd lusted over for a couple of years. But a terrific show it was . . . . only 360 days 'til the next, so start saving up.

And for those who didn't find toy soldiers enought, the Orange County Fire Department St Patrick's Day party with massed pipes and drums and irish dancers was an extra thrill. The memorial for a fallen fire fighter was particularly meaningful for us who have family on the job.

Perhaps next year we should arange a meeting spot for Treefroggers.

Thank you Tom & Al .. for the overview.

I am exicited about the new NAP in Egypt and hope this unique & colorful range takes off in a big way. :)

Hi Al,

Thank you for your generous comments. I didn't realize that the Hiriart set you bought from me during Saturday's room trading was a long sought-after addition to your collection. It happens to be one of my favorites, too. In fact, it was one of the thirty sets in my first order from Hiriart in 2005. I'll attach a photo so everyone can see it.

Your observations regarding the reporting (which I loved) of the 2011 West Coaster are right on. This Forum reflects the interests of the younger and upcoming generation of collectors, for the most part, since they are more computer savy than the old guys like me. In fact, I personally know several major collectors my age or older who have huge collections and they are not even on-line. They collect only traditional, glossy, 54mm figures, for the most part, and you would be hard pressed to find any King & Country, Figarti, Collectors Showcase, or First Legion figures in their collections. That being said, those companies represent the future trend of our hobby. The 60mm, action posed, matte figures are clearly in the ascent now. However, I am cheap and I like buying my traditional, glossy, 54mm figures for $12 or $13 each rather than the $30-40-50 per figure offerings that are becoming more common. Besides, I can display 5,000 traditional figures in my toy soldier room on curio glass shelves rather than 500 action posed figures if I had them in dioramas. And finally, dare I say this? I actually prefer them to the new stuff.
