Sorry mate,there are still some differences in word use between our two countries!.

Heres a question for my American friends.What is the whole thing about 'not wearing white after Labour day'.I've heard this on several US sitcoms and don't understand it?.

My understanding - limited as it maybe - is that Women's Fashion sees the Color White as a Summer Color for fashion. Traditionally - Summer ends on Labor Day - the first week of September.
