OK guys a trip down memory lane. If he is not your cup of tea please feel free to start a Britney Spears, Sinatra or Metallica thread etc !

Who can forget Genesis / Phil Collins and their / his music from 80's and 90's and the fun video clips and Live Aid etc. He was probably most played musician at that time.

Phil Collins in the news recently as going back into the studio to do first album for quite a while. Saw an interview with him which had some good clips from In the air tonight, Tyson in Hangover movie , Miami Vice 1st episode, chocolate Gorilla ad etc. Did some Youtubing and some of the best results below.

His Wiki entry is interesting. Although sad to see in later years his popularity suffered a lot and unfortunately no longer able to play drums.

Americans may also recall he is a big Alamo fan and donated a significant collection to San Antonio and even published a book on Alamo memorabilia.

This is my response to the petition in UK against his return to music. I hope he brings out a great album that is well received and if he comes to Brisbane I will drag the kids along to see him.

Have been a long time fan of Genesis going right back when I was a long haired lay-about walking around in a cloud of blue smoke :wink2: The very best music they ever produced is without doubt the album 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' when Peter Gabriel was still the front man, Phil Collins showed way back then what a talent he is by co-writing most of the music and magic drum work......:salute::

Loved Genesis in all it's forms and liked all the different members, especially Gabriel, Collins, Rutherford, and Banks. 'Lamb' is brilliant, as is most of their work. The members were so talented on an individual basis that even when going out on their own or forming new bands, they produced great music. Of all of them, my favorite is Gabriel, but they all make great music. -- Al

Big fan as well......loved Phil's sound score for "Risky Business" movie with Tom Cruise (Train scene).

It was on May 11 in 1975 when I saw Genesis live for the first time.
That was the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Tour.
They played the entire album and then one of my all time favorites by them, "The Musical Box" from the Album Nursery Cryme was played as encore.

My preferences are for the older records up to The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.
The first couple releases after Peter Gabriel and the band separated were still very good, A Trick Of The Tail and Wind & Wuthering.
After the album "And Then There Were Three" I turned my back to them.

Matter of fact, while writing this I just opened up YouTube and am listening now to "Selling England By The Pound" ^&grin
It is only 1:27 PM, so this might become a very long day of listening to Genesis :wink2:

Very good memories !!!

Interesting.

Can tell people's age by whether they relate to Genesis with or without Peter Gabriel ^&grin

Clearly I must be the young pup as I am a post Gabriel era guy. Might have to get onto the YouTube again and have a look at the early stuff which has never been on my radar. Only really knew Gabriel due to his well known Sledgehammer video.

Will also check out train scene in Risky Business.

I sculpted some figures for Mr Collins. They were produced by HM of Great Britain. The figures were of him and his band members that were on the "Really Serious" tour (1988 ?) . A set was made for each member of the band, and was given at the end of the tour as a memento. I wonder if any have survived? The drum kit was very fiddly.

Did you keep a set for yourself ?
