I would like to take a moment to say how helpful this forum has been . While I was lucky enough to have parents that gave me Marx play sets for Xmas and let me tie up the family room floor for days I have always kind of been alone as a toy soldier collector . My father in law made me aware of the Chicago show in 92 and while I saw other collectors most of the Sunday show was old glossy , dimestore and such. And I just spent time digging thru boxes under someone's table . The sellers were really to busy too to talk .

When guys like Richard Conte and Ron Barzo came out with new plastic sets I started to go on Saturday and meet some people but , felt so far out of my league it was shocking .I had not heard of 90 % of the manufactures that they were talking about , much less, knew the difference between scales , materials , and the like .

Well a manufacture ( who shall remain nameless ) said I had to have metal , and 12 years later I have a collection that when someone see for the the first time , my wife lovingly calls "our 2nd home in Mexico " . I still did not feel like I knew enough to have a great understanding of the hobby. After looking at this forum over a couple of years and joining last year I have learned enough to try start doing dioramas .

With help from people like Richard Conte , Richard Walker, Craig and Woody fro Old Toy Soldier home , Stan Clark , Ron from Somerset , Joe Baker , Ted from Tedtoy , and many others I can not think of, I feel like I am no longer alone with a goofy hobby.

I thank the moderators of this forum and all of the folks who have posted picture and words of advice . It has driven me to a new level of realism in my my collecting and desire too show this hobby for what it is, too people who I would have been leery of saying I collect toy soldiers years ago

Good for you , Chuck. It is not the hobby that is goofy, just most of the collectors:tongue: .Michael

Michael, I disagree. It is ALL of the collectors that are goofy (the perfect word for us).:redface2:{sm3}^&grin -- Al

Hi Chuck,

Welcome to the Treefrog Forum as an active and participating member. Your story is somewhat like mine. I collected in a vacuum for years until I finally met another collector. Soon after that meeting, I discovered Treefrog and I mustered the courage to display my ignorance of the hobby. I am still somewhat ignorant on many aspects of the hobby, but I have found great friends, limitless fun, helpful advice, useful instructions, and terrific fellowship on this forum. I have no doubt you will experience similar results as you actively participate with us. Please visit often and post frequently. We look forward to more conversation with you.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Hi Sandor,
For periods I collect Zulu , WW1 , WW2, Viking , Roman, Am Rev , Am Civil War, Nile war ,and samurai .

As far as manufactures , Conte , W Britain's , ONTS , Somerset , Monarch , and of course Marx . I also have been buying the Complete line of Law Of Arabia by Somerset . ( simply Amazing )

I'm one of those guys who has to buy all the sets of a given line and I like big battles so I try to buy lots of multiples .

While K&C,Frontline ,and JG and others make some amazing sets I started with 54 mm and I'm kinda locked in, so I tend to stick with companies that use that scale.

Hi,
I collect mostly Napoleonics, both 54mm and 60mm, but mostly Britains, suplimenting their stuff with anything ealse I like. However, on the side I also collect a bit of Britains WWI, and some of Sudan, so we overlap there.
Looking forward to talking with you,
Sandor
