I would like to take a moment to say how helpful this forum has been . While I was lucky enough to have parents that gave me Marx play sets for Xmas and let me tie up the family room floor for days I have always kind of been alone as a toy soldier collector . My father in law made me aware of the Chicago show in 92 and while I saw other collectors most of the Sunday show was old glossy , dimestore and such. And I just spent time digging thru boxes under someone's table . The sellers were really to busy too to talk .
When guys like Richard Conte and Ron Barzo came out with new plastic sets I started to go on Saturday and meet some people but , felt so far out of my league it was shocking .I had not heard of 90 % of the manufactures that they were talking about , much less, knew the difference between scales , materials , and the like .
Well a manufacture ( who shall remain nameless ) said I had to have metal , and 12 years later I have a collection that when someone see for the the first time , my wife lovingly calls "our 2nd home in Mexico " . I still did not feel like I knew enough to have a great understanding of the hobby. After looking at this forum over a couple of years and joining last year I have learned enough to try start doing dioramas .
With help from people like Richard Conte , Richard Walker, Craig and Woody fro Old Toy Soldier home , Stan Clark , Ron from Somerset , Joe Baker , Ted from Tedtoy , and many others I can not think of, I feel like I am no longer alone with a goofy hobby.
I thank the moderators of this forum and all of the folks who have posted picture and words of advice . It has driven me to a new level of realism in my my collecting and desire too show this hobby for what it is, too people who I would have been leery of saying I collect toy soldiers years ago
