I have contacted 2 toy soldier dealers in my area Massachusetts. They were not much help all they told me was to bring in my items for appraisel of $100 to $200 dollars. If I put my items on ebay how do I know what to charge I have older Imperials set no 39 17th lancers 1879 set no 40 mounted officer 17th lancers 1879 and set no. 7 confederate infantry civil war. all in boxes.
I aslo have a few other of other manf. do not know if I am allowed to list under this forum.

The dealers you have contacted seem to be close to the market value for these pieces. If you'd like to go E-Bay, you can always search for Imperial Productions or Imperial under toys and hobbies, worldwide, both active items and finished listings, which might give you an idea of the values you could fetch for these items. From what I've seen (and sometimes bought), the 6 to 7 figure items might get you somewhere between 100 to 150USD and the mounted figures might go from 50 to 75USD, very roughly, it all depends on the number of bidders interested on these items (Imperial does raise interest on E-Bay). If you don't feel confortable selling them yourself on E-bay, there are people who might do it for you but not for free... E-bay listing and selling also means fees you have to pay, and also some more fees if you get payment through paypal, but nothing overwhelming.
Hope this helps, please excuse me if you already know all this. If you need anything else, feel free to send me a private mail message.
Long live Imperial Productions!

Cheers,
Paulo

Jean,

If you want to list under this Forum, there is a collectors classified section where you can sell if you wish. Welcome to the Forum.

Hi, jean11, if I understand your post correctly, the dollar amounts you mention were the charge for the appraisal service, or were they the amounts those dealers appraised the sets to be worth?

Remember that a dealer is a businessman, so I wouldn't begrudge him the fee he charges for his services, I'd only decide to accept his service, or decline. You have to decide whether his fee is worth it to you, to pay someone, so you don't have to do the work yourself.

Now, having put the lecture aside, it sounds like you're already choosing to do your own research. This forum is a good resource for that, so you'd probably be best off by making pictures of the sets available, and then asking people what they think. There are many members who would be happy to offer their opinion and advice, out of sheer goodwill. Of course, hopefully, you'll remain with us, and help pay that goodwill forward yourself :)

Another tack to take is to run some searches on eBay and see if you find the same or similar sets, and then see what other sellers there are asking, and use that to help decide what to charge.

Depending on how urgently you want to sell your sets, that is, if you can afford to wait, you might also want to visit some of the upcoming shows in your area, and see whether the same or comparable sets are on the market.

I would also go back through this Imperial forum and look at the notes and posts people have put up.

If that seems like a lot of time and effort, remember, you already have two bids for that time and effort of $100 to $200. You could always decide, too, to contact an auctioneer who specializes in toy soldiers, and have him sell them for you in a specialty auction. Norman Joplin comes to mind; he's a member of the forum and checks in from time to time.

Hope that all helps, prosit!

That is how I understood the post as well BJ. An appraisal takes time if you have a lot of figures or sets.

Paulo is correct as to looking on ebay and comparing. It takes time to do this. You could contact Tdubel or Drum, both members are very knowledgeable and would be glad to help.

I would say Viriato [Paulo] price estimates are very good ,
from the many auctions I have followed his prices are pretty
much spot on .

I will jump in here too, prices quoted seem to be good, I just sold sets 2 and 5 for $118 each to Nathan. I am not as up on Imperial as others, but regardless, I was happy to see them go to another forum member and if that's a great price, then good for Nathan!
