Early this year, I purchased what I think is one of the finer miniatures produced - the new (matte) Delhi Durbar. I wasn't a Durbar enthusiast, but I found the elephant so striking I broke my own rule (if not the bank) and started on a new line.
I accidentally knocked off the standard bearer riding on top, and the tip of the flagpole was damaged. I want to make clear that this had nothing to do with the figure - it and others have literally survived earthquakes - there was nothing but my own clumsiness to blame.
Perhaps that's why I was so distraught. I believed I would have to purchase an entire new elephant just for the rider, or live with a damaged piece beyond my ability to repair.
When I attended the West Coaster, I happened to stop by the W. Britains room to check out the new Sudan range. Richard Walker was there, and we had an enjoyable conversation about the hobby. I asked him if I could purchase a standard bearer, hoping perhaps that there was a spare lying around.
Not only did Richard send me a brand new standard bearer, he sent it for free. He didn't even charge me for shipping.
This was something he didn't have to do - as I said, this was all my fault. It's hard to imagine any business doing the same. But whether or not he knew it, he's just gained a customer for life.
I'm hoping that by posting this public thanks to Richard and W. Britains not that they'll be flooded with requests like mine; but just to give everyone yet another reason to support this great company.
