I recently received a long awaited wooden aircraft model from Thomas Gunn: the Arado E.555 Amerikabomber 😎

For a little history, the Arado E.555 was a long range strategic bomber proposed by the German Arado aircraft company during World War II in response to the RLM's Amerikabomber project. Some 15 different concepts were developed that never left the drawing board before the project was cancelled in late 1944. Thomas Gunn’s model represents the initial E.555-1 design.

The Arado E.555 conceptual aircraft and the German Amerikabomber project in general have fascinated me for decades, particularly after I first saw the Revell 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the E.555 at a local hobby shop back in the late 1990s. This model is technically Thomas Gunn’s second version of the Arado E.555 with first having been released in July 2023 and selling out almost instantly. Blake and team were very kind to revisit the model and gave the new version a few improvements with the open bomb bay with bombs plus the drop tanks under the wings. I really dig the mottled RLM 75 Grauviolett (grey-violet) over RLM 76 Lichtblau (light blue) camouflage scheme as well. It very much has a “Luftwaffe 1946” feel to it!

I’ve got my E.555 model displayed with some older TGM Luftwaffe figures and accessories. The bomber’s crew are preparing for a long range mission while the ground crew finished fueling and making some final checks on the aircraft. Target for today: New York City…
