The Army of Frederick the Great (2 Viewers)

If you mean the Bosniak, you can also get a standing figure (a trooper, not an officer) from Army House/Alymer. New Hope Designs also has a Bosniak in its "Men at Arms" series, based on the Osprey books. I've got those kits in my stash, awaiting painting

New Hope Designs kits are still available, by the way, but I can't recall at the moment who is producing them. I have an email somewhere from the current owner of the brand and can't find it.

Rylit also makes a mounted figure of a Bosniak trooper. It depicts the earliest uniform, with the cylindrical cap and turban that preceded the fur cap.

Prost!

Brad,

The address that I have used for NHD is www.newhopedesigns.shqminiatures.co.uk

I also recommend the Army House and Rylit figures. Rylit have recently (and at long last) revised their website and now display photos (pictures) of all their figures. They have a large 7YW collection. Something in the order of 45 Prussians (inc a Gun and Crew!) and about 23-25 Austro Hungarians Just google "Rylit"

Keep up the good work, lads!

Happy Collecting,

Beautifully painted John.Since my recent retirement I have tried my hand at painting a few figures which has made me very appreciative of your skill.Well done that man.

Next for me will be another 4 Prussian Hussars so that I will then have all of the 10 Regiments wearing the hussar uniform.
John

As promised here are the remaining 4 Hussar Regiments, well according to some reference books.

Regt 4, 7, 9 & 10

Here's the next figure promoted from my gray army into the finished collection: Ferdinand, Duke of Brunswick, a Stadden portrait figure:

As with many other Stadden portrait figures, it doesn't really look like the subject. I picked this up off eBay as a "Stadden Hessian Officer". I noticed the star of the Order of the Garter on his left breast, and that was the clue. Ferdinand was awarded the Garter for his success commanding the allied army in western Germany. I checked my old Stadden catalog and found that sure enough, he's listed among the personalities in the Prussian army catalog. I've painted him in the uniform of his regiment in Frederick's army, "Alt-Braunschweig", or "Brunswick-senior" (IR 5). Though, the shoulder cord is inaccurate. But I didn't want to file it off. The telescope is a neat touch, though, and it's what makes Stadden's old custom figures so cool.

I've been experimenting with glazing, too, using clear acrylic with a little bit of tint, to pick up the cast relief on a figure.

Thanks for looking!

Prost!

And ….. when I was in Germany last year,
in the Plassenburg, the castle in the city of Kulmbach in Bavaria,
where they have a museum devoted to the Army of Frederick the Great,

and I saw the exact coat and hat of the officer I have just painted :)

Awesome, one of my favorite Museums I was just there again a few weeks ago for a quick visit we were just passing by and I was able to squeeze in a sort drool session. I could go there once a month and not get tired of it, its just one of those places. Great to see the photo and the figure you did a wonderful job. :salute:::salute::.

Good news is that I have found my Bosniak Hussar, but he wasn't listed in your suggested figures ,,,, this one is a Romeo Models ROM54095

He is an officer posed leaning on a tree smoking a cigarette, wearing winter uniform, and his lance resting on the limb of the tree

Re: The Army of Frederick the Great, What's happening at Rylit?

Just made a "casual" inspection of Rylit's new site, yesterday. When it wouldn't open, I resorted to Google to find that there is now "another" new site.

It seems that the range of figures has been drastically reduced.

The 7YW Prussian range no longer has the artillery, the mounted figures and a lot of the foot. The 7YW Austrian range has disappeared completely!

A sign of the times?

Happy Collecting, [if one can find someone selling what one wants!]

I'd contact Frau Litterscheidt through the site and ask. I imagine that things that aren't pictured, are probably still available to order.

I emailed her a couple of years ago, and she sent me hardcopy of the Prussian SYW catalog. At that time, the website showed only about a quarter of what was in that catalog, maybe even a little less.

Prost!

What do think of the new John Jenkins Design Hessian Jägers 1776 ???...Will the fit in as Prussians ???

John

Unfortunately, no, because the Prussian Jäger had coats without lapels. I ran into the same thing when considering Imrie-Risley Jäger castings-they have lapels molded on. They can be removed, but it's a pain to do. With John's figures, I wouldn't undertake to alter them. But they could be painted as Jäger from either Hessen-Cassel or Brunswick, both of whose uniforms had lapels.

The Prussians Jäger also wore boots, both foot and mounted, rather than gaiters.

Prost!

There is a great collection of Prussian SYW artifacts at Forschstenstein Castle in Austria that is worth seeing (near Vienna, Austria).

Late last year I won a couple of Ebay auctions in UK and got these 2 Stadden figures as unpainted castings.

The Potsdam Giant grenadier is pre-Frederick, but I think he can be exhibited here,

2prustads.jpg

and the officer has been painted as 27th Regiment c 1750
The reason that chose that regiment was that the casting has 9 buttons on the lapels, but was missing a gorget, which I fashioned from some metal sheeting.

An d also I'd like to show off one of Frederick's ally's , Great Britain, with an Iniskilling Dragoon, by ROSE Miniatures.

Over the past month I have got some Ebay purchases ..... more castings to paint .....

Stadden ; Prussian Infantry from The Army of Frederick the Great.

prussian 3 800.jpg
prussian 4 800.jpg
prussian 5 800.jpg
prussian 6 800.jpg

A few are missing some parts, like spontoons for the officers and the end of a musket, and there was some minor bending that occurred in-transit, but all that can get fixed.

Keep a lookout here as I paint them and exhibit my work. They will be in batches of similar groups.

John

You probably beat me on those, you SOB

I've won a couple, too, but there was one lot that I particularly wanted, 7 Prussian grenadiers, but I was outbid in the last seconds. I could see from the photos that they were from IR 12, with the distinctive large eagle on their cap plates (see my example earlier in the thread). I won another auction for another group of those grenadiers, too, and I had hoped to put a whole platoon together. I've also got what I believe is Dr. Bussler's copy of that figure, with the smaller base cast integrally with the figure.

I consoled myself with the knowledge that I've got plenty of castings already in my stash, to keep me painting for a couple of years.

Prost!
